Shark Attack in South Africa Draws Dozens of Shark Watchers to the Beach |
A Shark Attack at the False Bay Coastline in South Africa has drawn a lot of attention as dozens of shark watchers and life guards lined the bay on alert for any signs of Sharks and urging beach goers to stay out of the water. Just a few days ago, a shark came under the board of surfer Richard Whitaker. The board was completely destroyed; however, Whitaker amazingly escaped with just a few scratches and minor injuries. Greg Oelofese , the City of Cape Town's environmental policy and research co-ordinator, said, “Another surfer, Brian Hope, interviewed the alleged victim following the incident and photographed the victim's surf-board leash, which is apparently torn in two. According to Brian, approximately 15 surfers at the surf spot at the time all left the water following this incident. We're struggling to get more details, but at the moment we're taking it at face value." Brian Moccrieff, who was also surfing that day, had this to say about his experience, “I looked up and then I saw the shark. Somehow he managed to get away without being bitten and it only bit his leash. I just went numb when I saw the shark and paddled as fast as I could to shore." |
