Shark Attack in Oregon

Tom Larson was surfing on Tuesday off the coast of South Jetty in Oregon when he was bitten on the foot by a shark and needed over 30 stitches.

“It just felt like a vice, a bear trap clamping down,’’ Larson said. “There wasn’t any pain probably because my adrenaline was going. The scariest thing was paddling in.’’

“I heard him screaming,’’ said Larson’s brother Sam, 21. “I looked and saw him splashing, holding on to his board, half in the water. He had a complete look of terror on his face. All the color had left his face. I guess we were both in shock.’’

This was one of the few shark attacks that have ever occurred in the Oregon area.

Originally, the surfers thought that the Dorsal Fin they saw was that of a porpoise as they had send 3 or 4 of them already that day.

“We were like, ‘No, dude, that’s a porpoise,” Larson said. “We’d seen some porpoises in the water earlier.’’

Larson says though although his injury will take a lot of time to recover from, he hopes to return to the ocean to surf as soon as possible.
