Nov 2, 2005 - A 25 year old male surfer was attacked suddenly while surfing in SanMateo County, San Francisco. The shark attacked the surfer while he and his friend were catching waves several yards offshore at a hot local spot for surfing, referred to as the Mavericks
The shark completely missed the surfer, and didn’t leave a mark on the surfer’s body. However the surf board showed evidence of bite marks.
"I was lying down on my board, and it knocked me out of the water," West said. "My board got knocked two feet out of the water. I waited for the turbulence to end. I didn't know what it was."
A shark attack at this local hot spot has been unheard of for about two to three years. However, surfers should always be aware of the risk of shark attacks no matter where they are.
