Default 2/3 High speeding

One of my favorite fish to catch is Wahoo and this time of year they get more plentiful, especially in August as the full moon approaches. I left Boynton Inlet prior to daylight. Lines were in just as dawn was breaking. Start high speed trolling with two rods loaded with lures I had built myself. I head towards a productive spot that always seem to hold a few wahoo and wham.... starboard rod goes off. I reel in the first wahoo by 6:30 am.

Reset the lines and at 7:00am the port rod starts singing. Clear the lines and in comes the next wahoo. I'm feeling pretty good at this point . Reset lines and at 7:30 port rod starts screaming again, clear lines and I have on the largest wahoo of the day. Comes up along side the boat and the hook pulls before I can sink the gaff .

Finished the day with a couple of kings, spanish mackerel, a few boneheads and a remora of all things For the most part a successful day, fresh sushi, steaks for the grill, etc.

On a side note.... Damn was it hot out there today, heat index 106 degrees. I might start doing either early morning or late afternoon trips and forget the mid-day BS until things start cooling off a bit more.

Here ya go....

Very simple to make these lures and they are great on wahoo and other species for high speed trolling.

Start with three plastic squid skirts, (the most productive colors I use are hot pink, black & purple). Thread an 8 ounce egg sinker into the head of the first skirt. Then using a thin film of soap put the next skirt over the first, then the last skirt over the second skirt. Use a rigid double hook configuration with the trailing hook at the very end of the skirt and the first hook close to the head. Use 3- 4 feet of 400 pound cable to the hooks.

If you want to troll very fast, attach 15 feet of 200 pound mono to the rigged cable then connect that to a 32-36 ounce torpedo weight to your main line. That's it!!! very simple to make and they are outstanding wahoo killers.

DF2,

All hits came between 180 and 240. It is only going to get better as the full moon approaches this month. Hope that helps.....

Cool full moon hoos

Right on. I rarely get to do any trollin. But the last one I got off bynton bit in 270. Most of the guys I fish w/ are livebait/kiteheads, or bottom scrapers. Did run into a bunch of sm-med hoos on our way to swordfish last sept. They were keyed in on some debris, and we caught a bunch. They were so fired up, we were getting em on belly strips cut from the first hoo....believe it was the full moon as well
