Fishensticker:
I cannot factually account for the Wahoo bite around Rum Cay at the beginning of May, 2007. But ... We had some favorable luck Wahoo fishing the beginning of April, from West End to Matanilla Shoal on the western side. 5 Wahoo, a couple of dolphin and two Blackfin Tunas along with our reduced 20 lb. portion of demersals (yellow eye snapper.) We fished, high speed style, last weekend (4/26-4/27) from Bimini to past Great Issac and around the bend a ways to East Issac. 0 Wahoo, a few dolphin including a mondo sized bull around 45-50# estimated, 0 Tuna and our reduced 20 lb. portion of demersals (Yellow eyes). Where we lacked in Wahoo, we made up in Cudas. Surprisingly, we kept nabbing them on the deeper side with the high speed gear. There is another full moon coming up so I would say there could still be a shot at them. Let's see how it goes this weekend from Bimini. From some of the local fisherman reports they have been steadily moving North, and there may still be some good fishing North of West End. I do not know how that applies to Wahoo fishing around San Salvador. I think the water is cooler on that side so there may be a slight lag time from what we are experiencing on the western side of the Bahamas. This is just two reports, a month apart, from one source so keep the inquiries going for some local knowledge in the lower Bahamas. But the Wahoo can still be caught all summer just not with any consistency. Have fun. I would like to get down that way some day for a jumbo sized Wahoo. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to hunting for BIG fish in that area--never been that far south in the Bahamas. Hopefully there will be something worth posting about when I return (and getting our money's worth of our 6 pelagic fish limit)!!!!
