Hey R, I monitor 72 - I should be out by 8 or so tomorrow, (us old guys have to sleep in a bit)

ive never caught a wahoo by accident trolling at 4-8 mph but had a few suspicious cut offs.

do you ever catch em slow trolling by accident? or do you have to be a certain minimum speed?

I firmly believe that we have a wahoo curse for my Dad and I   When we first got the old boat about 2 years ago we had about a 30 lber at the boat and had a gaff through the fish three times and watched it swim away bleeding like a stuck pig   We both fell to our knees lol

The only other wahoo we've had came in Bimini under a large ball of net and debris. it was about 25 lbs. Beside that we haven't had one fish to the boat, plenty of slashed baits and wacked speedsters but no fish

What's the name of the boat, if I don't see it I'll call for Rollin tomorrow on the radio. Don't know how much after 8 we'll be out there. We're waking up at 4 so we should be ready to go

On more then one occasion, we have caught wahoo while idling along while fighting another wahoo doing about 1-3 mph. Once these fish are hungry they will eat!

Trolled from 5:00 to 9:00 without a fish. Plenty of scattered grass but no fish.

a little faster than regular trolling speed ?

Ray from Ray's tackle will never go over 13 knts and he catches some fish. Other people cruise all the way up to 18 knts. I read an article saying that it is to entice the bite but also because when they held tournaments in the bahamas "the boat that crossed the fish first is the one who got the fish" so people sped up to get there.

I would say about 10-12 maybe 14 knots will work.

Did you guys hear anything from up North? I am running a friend's boat out of PBI on Monday. I know there was a bite from 150 - 250 feet south of the inlet last week, but haven't heard anything since then. Thanks in advance.

I've caught hoo's from 3 knots up to 14 knots. No doubt you could catch them faster than that, due to their speed, but you'll be burning more fuel and you'll be going too fast to catch other desirables.

I've caught them doing 3 knots with another wahoo on the line.
I've caught them doing 6-7 knots on a belly strip when cruising commercial fishing.
I've caught many of them on skirted lures doing 7-8 knots when marlin fishing.
I've caught most of them on ~10" YoZuri bonito lures doing 10-12 knots. In the panhandle I've always done best with purple/black and once had one that was so beaten up and missing paint that we took a can of black Krylon to it. That beaten-to-hell lure with a coat of Krylon was our best one for a long time, until the 300# mono got bit through one day :/

I guess I will let you know. Jr, Bummer about the reel. But you got the fish. Are you dragging any Ballys outside of Boca or straight high speed stuff? I am going to the pool be back in a little while.

It's alright, lessons to be learned right? Isn't that what seperates the men from the boys ?? My Dad and I looked at eachother and said "we will kill this fish". Although we both knew we thought we were going to lose it. It did fight much harder and acted like it would break the 200 lb mark

This morning we dragged two skirted ballyhoo on leads and two lures. No one caught anything that I know of.

When the wind is west, stay home and rest.

That's right Jr., what does not kill you will make you stronger.

Now as far as those reels go....................stay away from black trash.

I hope you get another good one. I will let you know what happens in the morning. :salut:

The wind is going to come out of the North so maybe they will give me a good shot before the moon is gone.

Similar to your mercury engine?? I can recall the event where someone said to you "Why are mercs black? Because they're dressed for a funeral" I know we will eventually step to the Tiagra's and have no worries. I think 50 wides are the only option because even though my Dad prefers it out of the rod holder, I'll stand up to it everytime.
