Default 1st big wahoo trip of fall

left o'dark thirty sat morn on the "Rough n it", with capt tom, petrafied, fillmaster steve, JB and derek l. perfect morning, 1-2, nice full moon had just set, and 8 am high tide off memory rock...went straight to the corner and had lines in by 9. water looking good, hoping all the stars will align for a big trip...
Passed "Privateer" and capt rex heading the other direction, and wham, covered up in football blackfins...double, triples etc....cant even get through em to find the target species, thats until 3 of em come in with no tails...time to get the heavy artillary and pick up the speed... right flat goes off hard, and after a lenghty run, mystery fish starts jumping like a billfish we clear lines, still not sure until the first stud wahoo of the day shows up in the whitewash!
quick turn around and head back over the same spot, and shotgun goes off, and its a cuda, surfing to boat. half way in, capt tom pulls back on the throttles to make the cranking a little easier, and wham, triple header
one by one the big slobs come over the gunnel....another pass, another double, then as the tide starts to slow about 130, one more stud...
wanting to save a few for the next trip, Tom spies a bird pack with his new 25kw furuno toy, and its time to see if we can get a fall yellowfin...first pass, triple goes off. pull the hooks on one, shot gun comes in with a nice fatty, and steve's fighting a quality fish thats still taking line on a 50. 15 minutes later, a nice, nice fish gets the head shot, and with no more room left in the box, and the icemaker having trouble catching up, we head for home. final count, 12 blackfin, 7 hoo's (5 real studs) and two nice YF. biggest dissapointment was finding the hidden rum bottle empty!

Nice job. How are you able to fish Memory Rock and come back the same day? Or, did you check in and stay there. Just curious because your run to MR is shorter than our normal run to go fishing up here in NE Florida.

Awesome catch. I have a basic question. By law are you required to clear Bahamas customs if you are fishing the ledge up by the corner. Not asking what anyone did just trying to get the correct info so I can make my own decision.

Thanks for any help.

Yes you are not supposed to be withing 12 nautical miles of the bank..Not land..

Default land vs bank

there is a lot of discussion on this subject. I have it directly from a personal friend high up in the us coast guard, that the 12 mile limit is observed from the closest fully exsposed land mass (at high tide) which is memory rock, to the south , and almost walkers to the east. the bahamian's may consider the bank within their territorial waters, but the u.s. does not, and neither does anyone else. as long as you stay 12 out from those points, you are good to go...kind of makes sense why there is very little if any bahamian or u.s. patrols that far north. you may get checked coming west by the uscg, but it's always about smuggling, either illegals or drugs. I would never stop in international waters for anything but the uscg for any reason, period. Unlike some, we always check in when going to walkers or westend, and I have the reciepts and immigration stamps to prove it. thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
