Default Bout a dozen hoos over past month 8/2008

Have had some good trips, and some not so good, but overall we put a bunch of nice wahoo in the boat.

Saved up my pennies so I could buy some gas and go fishing. Have been super busy but was blessed to have a decent bite, and want to share some cool pics / incidents.

Started out on AM trip aboard Deep Dropper w Karl from Bob Schneider lures. They put together a cool lure we are calling "the schneilander", and darn if it did not get CRUSHED about 30 min after lines in. Had another hooked up, but pulled the hook. Fishe weighed 39 at scale at Jib Club where AM AMSTELS were enjoyed by all

Set out w Golfcane on the E$, and bite was hot down S. Went 2 for 5, including a fifty lb fish weighed in Jup. Yup, cold Amstels in AM for celebration.

Tell me if you think Golfcane is pleased. :biglaugh:

Decioded to do a drag w Doradosteve, who was kind enough to host Deep Dropper and I. After about forty five minutes of waiting, the alutecnos sings a song. Nice fish in the boat, and wahoo steaks for all.
Thanks very much Doradosteve for ride in Topaz.

Decided to do another trip on the E$ and invited Golfcane, and my buddy Mike.
We put a small fish in the boat within about 30 minutes, and pulled the hooks on a MOOSE that was 25' behind the boat.

At this point was on a roll, and got an invite to fish w good friend Ken and his nephew Ray on rental boat out of Jonathan's. Had some isses w depth finder, and got some funny looks as we loaded up and headed out. Fifteen minutes after lines in, Normoyles are hooked up to first ever wahoo. Shot of me & Ken

Just when we thought we had bite "all figured out", it shut of like a switch, w the w/sw. Thanks very much to Golfcane, Deep Dropper and Doradosteve for doing the trade a trips with me. Have a good one, and thanks again.

Tried to do a swordie trip w DD and Doradosteve. We got set up w "Team alutecnos", and initially the weather was real nice. That changed VERY quickly where wind went from dead calm to 30 knots and 4-6' seas. Lesson to all of us on saftey. Nice shot of DD and the gear from team technos.

Got up Sat AM ,and did another one of my in-famous "rental boat" trips out of Jonathans. We have been batting 1000 w Ken and the party continued.

First up w a good wahoo that SMACKED the Ace Lure on flat.

Made another pass, had a short strike, then a solid hook up on the ace again.
This time we were surprised when a large sail started tail walking.
Rigged the guys up some triples & started getting kings and some good muttons. All in all a good time had by all.

camera date was screwed up on sail / mutton pic and reverted to 06, but this was sat am

Headed back out Sat PM for a quickie w the guys from Bob Schneider lures.

Shot of one of the weapons of choice. Ding dong, short wire got smacked, and wahoo in the boat. No good pics, but took one "in the box".

Thanks for the rides, hope you all had a good week-end. E$

Great report , fish, and pictures to boot!!! Thanks for sharing.

That lure that you show looks like a single hook stiff rigged Islander with and Octupus skirt instead of the usual Islander "Hair". Is there any other difference? Why do you like the Octupus skirt better than the typical Islander? Also I see another fish with a double hook stiff rig set at 180 degrees. Which do you prefer for wahoo fishing-Single or double hook stiff rigs?

Bajakain, my buddy at Bob Schnieder showed me how to "customize" islanders with octopus skirts as supplement. We have been experimenting with some "glow in the dark" patterns, and have had some good success in low light scenarios. The pic is deceptive as rig is NOT 180. Personally I prefer double hook stiff rigs w stainless hooks that are "in line" etc.

E$,
I think you take pictures of the same fish at different times of the day, with different shirts on, and different guys. By my account, you actually caught 2 wahoo in the photos above.
