E, like the threay on the shot leaders. But after the tangle from hell, we switched out to a couple mono shock leaders and still pulled a hook or two.
I also agree that the smooth drag is crucial.

I wouldn't exactly call cable a "shock leader" since it has no stretch. If you are trolling braid or wire you MUST have about 20 - 30 feet of 200 pound mono both for some stretch and something heavy to pull on when you get the cigar lead to the rod tip. When trolling 80 pound mono I still use the same mono from lead to lure leader which is 49 strand cable for bite off protection..

However, I have learned to be VERY careful about words like "must", "always" & "never". If you check w many of the top tournament boats in Bahamas Wahoo Challenge or Championship, you will learn that many ARE pulling ALL Cable for their "shock" leaders in between lead & lure. There is not a mono shock to be found for the wire or power pro outfits at all. PS: Some have developed custom wind ons for wire & others have experimented w drag settings & found they didn't pull that many hooks, or need the "stretch" from the shock. I will say a heavy pair of gloves are mandatory for wiring those fish on cable & heatshrink is a godsend .

I wouldn't call myself a prodigy among anglers but I run all cable and actually prefer it over mono. Some good leather gloves(which you could buy at The Home Depot store #206 on Bird road
) and heatshrink in the right places make it a simple to handle. I hardly ever pull off fish on the strike... If i loose a fish most of the time it's because speed was backed off to fast. Ben
