Default Boca Hoo

Got a chance to go out and fish with something other than #4 hooks on a chicken rig for a change, the boys stayed home. Was able to get some gog's in the morning and also caught a small cobia on the bait rig

With plenty of bait we headed up north a bit and set up in very nice conditions, 15mph steady wind, 2' seas and some nice looking water. Got a sail on the long kite which was released in about 10 minutes. A very small king took about 5 swipes at the short kite bait without getting the hook, that was it on the first drift.

Second drift, baits looked awesome but nothing. I had been hoping for a hoo all day, that was really what I was looking for. Sails are fun but the wahoo is what does it for me. In 140', the short kite gets a small swirl, then another, nothing. The bait is nervous and does a little jump then the another small swirl. Looked like another small king was trying to eat but having trouble. Looked like a snook trying to eat a finger mullet. Finally, pressure on the line and I get tight to not much. Then the afterburner kicks in and 100yds go out. Hmmmmm, " How much drag do you have on that fish?" I hear, I check and not very much for whatever reason. A hard charge back to the boat then another longer run with some drag. Hmmmmm, I'm trying to talk myself into a wahoo like run. Finally, have him near the boat and I see a long shape with a green back. "Looks like a king and a nice one too" A couple more circles and I hear " that's no king, I saw stripes" :eek3: Up pops up the fish we were looking for. A very nice hoo'.

Didn't have as much ice as we should have so we finished the drift and got another sail on the long kite again. A nice 50lber who couldn't stay in the water. We gave our leftove baits to a very needy party, final tally 2/2 on sails and a nice wahoo in 3 1/2 hours of fishing. Not too bad but we were fishing outside of the Broward Pipe. btw, I am looking forward to using those baits in a couple of weeks.
