After the great wahoo run of last week we shifted gears and focused on the capture of tuna..not to say we didnt go looking for wahoo, we did, and failed to score even a knockdown.. Leon had the last bite on Sunday bringing in a 45 pound striped torpedo along with a dozen blackfins and limit of jacks..plump 20 plus pound blackfins have been super consistent for the last two weeks for our groups though I hadnt seen any yellowfin in the slick until this week..the ones that cruised the slick appeared to be skiddish..refusing every offering no matter what the line size..we found that live baits fished off the kite on the periphery of the slick to be the ticket..we didnt set the water on fire but managed to pick up at least one yellowfin each of the trips last week including an exciting double..the strike is worth the price of admission as are the near misses..yesterday's fish however took the cake, tipping the scales in excess of 150 pounds and making a 1/2 mile run under three anchor lines before settling deep where it finished off all the anglers on the boat but the last who turned and eternal 50 yard seesaw battle into a 5 minute winch job. We stil have yet to see a mako this year but we still keep the rod in the rack ready and waiting for the opportunity..the new state record was captured this week by a friend of mine, tipping the balance beam at 765 pounds..we would be much happier with a young adult..Call Paradise Outfiters and book your trip on our 30-36 ft express sportfishers and twin vee catamarans 1-888-FISHWUS (888-347-4987)
