We caught the Tuna near the ships off Freeport. Everything else was out in the middle of the Channel. Hopefully we will take another trip over there soon. $250.00 a person if anyone is interested. Otherwise see you guys out there!

Default Cool Report, you pirates.

Hey Snookbite:

A picture is always great, a video with some rasta music, even better.

Thanks for the report guys.

Did you get your copy of the Ahi Tuna Poke recipe that Bajakian posted on the forum? If you do, it will be worth your while.

For what it is worth, I like to try a bit patiently for a good head shot gaff but you can't always get it, so no criticism, it is just something I try to do.

If the deck is not frantic with activity, I will slit the gill artery on both sides then give the fish a salt water wash in the mouth until the blood runs fairly clear and the fish is settled down. Then into a salted ice slush if you have enough ice to spare.

For Sashimi, I prefer to let the loined out fish rest for at least 1 day. Store the loins in vaccuum sealed bags and in a salted ice cooler will keep the fish colder than if stored in the refrigerator. If you want to eat it all fresh or for long term straight into the deep freeze. For Tuna I will cut away any blemishes before sealing.

Because the current limit is 6 pelagics PER BOAT and they clearly went over that.

I have to agree with RT about the gaffing, no need to hurry once you know the fish is hooked properly, if you are patient and smooth with your retrieve the fish will come right to the surface in its Circles and you can literally plant the gaff tip precicely where you want it, not deep into the back meat. Slamming it down onto the deck will also bruise the meat. I brain and bleed them instantly which makes a big difference.

Thats respect for another nations laws! And people wonder why Bahamians are up in arms over the whole situation. This sort of thing will NOT help in your drive to get higher catch limits. Blatant disrespect for our laws will catch up with people one day. The catch limit is 6 (SIX) palagics per BOAT! Also i wonder what the penalty would be if a Bahamian got caught running a charter in American waters?

bringing a charter to the Bahamas is perfectly legal, same laws apply to this small boat as per the big mega yachts who charter to the Bahamas all the time. You can even base a foreign vessel in the Bahamas so long as you source the charter elsewhere.

problem here is someone violating the catch limits and advertising a charter to do so. Not too smart....

If you were to run to the otherside of the gulfstream and fish and you remained more than 12 miles offshore aren't you atill fine and under U.S. regs?

I would like to know for my own sake.

My friends, the video doesnt say that they fished in the Bahamas or that they were in Bahimian waters, and at no point do you see the islands in the video unless I am mistaken.

Check the location of the other side of the gulfstream two weeks ago, several boats got into Tuna other than Chris. My friend Armen checked in to Lucaya and fished for Tuna for a day with no luck, spent the night there, and fished the Bahimian waters with no luck the next morning, and it was not until he was clear of Bahimian waters that he found the Tuna in the middle of the next day. In fact, I know of two yellowfin Tuna that weekend that were caught right out front.

The other side of the gulf stream is what it is, the other side of the gulf stream.

As for violating catch limits, I am just going to point out that once you cross that magical boundary and are not fishing in Bahimian waters you are allowed to keep 10 dolphin per person and 3 Tuna per person.

Jr., the above information is correct. The only thing you may want to know is that the 12 miles in the channel is if you were to draw a line from West End to Bimini, 12 miles out from that, it is not 12 miles from shore if I am correct. If you like to hunt the Tuna, you should get the Cruising Permit as suggested, it will save you some hassle.

Riskreward says they cleared into the Bahamas and paid for fishing permits, the video advertises fishing charters to the Bahamas and half way through the video they claim to have released fish (presumably to stay under the catch limit.) However, the big dorado goes into the fish box on top of more than 6 other dolphin and the YFT were caught after that.

I agree that technically there is no proof where any of the fish were caught but the message in the whole video/post is - " Come fish with us in the Bahamas and this is what you might catch "

All they had to do was show the catching of the 2 YFT and the big Dolphin and nothing would be said. It was not smart to give the appearance of fishing in the Bahamas and showing a catch clearly over the local limit.

its all good, AG, the crunch here is that suppose the wrong person here see's that and gives it to the ministry of Fisheries, it will set back the movement to have the regs reviewed by miles.

BTW Fisheries here is aware of this web site and they check it once in a while so they may have alrteady seen the video.........

The guy states the fish where caught off Freeport, last time i checked that was the Bahamas. I am vex because this guy is advertising charters to the Bahamas and he is breaking our catch limit laws. Just as i expect people to respect our laws, i respect your laws. It is unacceptable for this guy or any other person to break our laws, strait, plain, and simple! This is why the last minister decreased the catch limits, people where taking advantage of the system.

MY BAD I completely forgot about the dolphin once the yft part was showing Some customs will tell you its 6 fish per day. However They should have cleaned the dolphin if they were caught the day before. Unfortunatly I have not had the problem of more than six in one day. But if I did I'm sure the smaller fish would become shark food which is a reel shame No fish or bug in the ocean is worth dealing with the local authorities

I'd like to see you gaff a 80 to 100# yf in the dark anchored up on the edge in the canyons. If you managed to stay in the boat after a mid back gaff shot like that you would most likely get fired when you got back to the barn. Nice fish although you need to slow down with all of your gaffing. As a "charter boat" your clients are paying for the food they catch, preferably a loin w/o holes in it.

read the post again, Alex, the word 'wrong' here means 'someone so inclined' NOT that they would be wrong to do so.

Allan, That is not how it reads and you know it. This Dude broke the laws of the Bahamas as are many. I work the Family islands and it is as bad as ever out there. Bahamians are still competting with Americans and others to harvest marine resorces in BAHAMIAN waters. Abaco gets pillaged by weekend warriors in a major way. Yes i understand their problem with the fact that BAHAMIANS have no catch limits but my friend it is our country and our law so until further notice play along or take the chance of getting your boat confiscated, a fine, and maybe Fox Hill.

Default Setting the Record Straight

I have recieved several phone calls regarding responses to the video I posted. I was disturbed to hear that accusations were being made on this forum that we were illegally fishing over in the islands. Why can't people just watch the video and enjoy it? When you guys make accusations like this it affects my reputation and my job. We were not fishing in the bahamas! The fact that we caught Yellowfin made for good advertisement because that is what we catch when we do go over there. Please ask me for the whole story before making accusations next time. Our fishing that day was meant to be a Dolphin/ Swordfish Trip In the gulfstream. As we ran offshore we found the schoolies about 23 miles off Boynton Beach around 11am. After stopping for a brief lunch break we continued trolling weedlines for the rest of the day with only more sattered Dolphin bites with a nice one on the Downrigger, a decent bull. As the day wore on we started marking birds on the radar about 35 miles off Boynton around 5pm. After fishing about 3 pods of birds with only small skipjacks under em, we found yellowfins as the sun began to set. We hooked a double and landed them and we headed back to the docks without stopping at the humps for swordies because we had enough meat and we were all tired. We never even came in sight of Freeport, But that is about the line that we were on. I will be a little more careful with my responses next time. I have been fishing the Bahamas since I was 4 and not once have I entered the Bahamas without clearing customs. Once again, I ask you to please ask me for the whole story before making premature judgements on my videos because there are many more to come!

Capt. Chris

Capt Chris

I am glad you finally chimed in here and good to hear you never went to the Bahamas to shoot this video..... sooooooo why did RiskReward state that you did this trip to the Bahamas? Between that and the end of the video where you ask viewers to "Book your Day trip to the BAHAMAS" you can perhaps see why we all thought you were fishing here and breaking the catch limits. The regs issue here is still a hot topic and some people are very prickly about it.

As you point out, you are the one who stands to lose the most in this confusion, maybe do a little bit of editing.... Good luck with your charter business I wish you well. Looking forward to the next installment.
