It will be my third trip to marathon in mid March so I am still quite the novice. I have done ok in the very close reefs but I would really like to get into some tuna. I dont know if they will be in season let alone were to go. I could really use a hand here!!

Head to the Marathon Humps, they are on the chart. Bring plenty of live bait and chum them up. You will find Blackfin Tuna, possibly a stray Yellowfin. Use 20# class outfit with 20# flourocarbon leader and a small hook (4/0).

Blackfin usually feed close to the surface, then go deep to cool down their body temperatures. Once cooled off and hungry again, they come up. So, by throwing out live pilchards, it encourages them to come up and feed again.
If pilchards can't be found, I have used cut-up sardines to chum and pitch out with. Also, a slow troll over the hump with tuna jigs would be my last resort. The thing to remember is to take your time and don't keep darting all over the place....it's a matter of timing with them coming up. This hump is my favorite and have found tuna there year round. However for me, May has always been the best. On any given day, you never know what you might hook into in a place like this
