Default Blackfin Tuna regs in FLA

Can a learned tuna fisherman enlighten me?

I'm trying to discover blackfin tuna regulations in Florida. Bag limits? Size limits? Help. Thank you

I may be confused, but I'm under the impression that you have to have an HMS permit to take any tuna. I know my buddy and I have one for his boat. I think it was only like 22 bucks on the state of fla website. Other than that Boboe is on the money. Personally I don't keep the pups and don't take more than I can eat without freezing them. I hear alot of people that don't care for them on the table, but I love em seared on the grill. Cool in the middle and crisp on the outside. A little wasabi, ginger and soy oooooeeeeee......OOPS I just drooled on the keyboard

Good Luck,

From my understanding, Blackfin Tuna have no size limits or basicly regulations at all. No HMS permit is neccessary. Here is some info on most of the HMS species(Blackfin tuna not included) Click Here

And this is mostly about commercial fishing but is still good Click Here

Default Thanks Jr.

Thanks Bro,
Will print this tommorow so I can read it. I knew you didn't have to call em in, but I thought you had to have the permit to keep em. Apreciate you digging it up for me.
Take care,
Butch

Default Corrected

Jr sent me the regs, and I stand corrected. Thanks. We originally bought the HMS permit cuz we thought we needed it for them. Hopefully in the near future we'll be calling in our first sword. Its tough when your first getting into it. We're getting closer every trip and refining our technique in the process. ( not to mention dumping a small fortune into the economy. )
Talked to Dave our fisheries biologist Sunday. He told me that Sport fishing in the state has surpassed the revenue from big sugar, over 9 billion. Thats good news in alot of ways.
Later,
Butch

Part of that is because "Big Sugar" is only present in about 1/3 of the geographical distribution of the state. Sport fishing is present all over the damn place. My old port has the largest charter fleet in the entire Gulf--over 100 boats
