Default New Penn 80VSW

Spoke to the Penn factory today regarding the new 80 vsw drag
He informed me that out of the Box the Max Drag is around 50#s with the new dura drag compound discs. Im sure the drag could be boosted to at least 60* max drag.
The factory has released some and will be releasing more in January
Im curious to get opions on the Tiagra wide 80 & the Penn 80VSW
I'd like to thank Cal Sheets at Caps2Speed & RealColors for there help

Check out there sites RealColors does a great job on engravings

I'm sure the 80vsw is a good reel... But in this day and age, it makes no sense to me to fish with such a heavy reel... I just bought the VERY FIRST Avet T-RX 30 wide ever sold (FYI: I pulled some strings with Avet and a distributer in Florida, who persuaded Avet to send the reel directly to me in CA))... I tested the T-RX 30W out this weekend on a 225 pound thresher shark... All I can say is welcome to the future... Although the optimum line to use for this reel is straight 130 pound hollow spectra with a short leader, I rigged it with 500 yards of 100 pound solid spectra with 50 yards of 80 pound mono top shot---This being the ideal rigging for the common threshers on migratory routes in my region... I hooked the beast and winched it in in less than 20 minutes... The drags are the smoothest I have ever fished with!... Of course, it felt a little wierd at first to have such a huge fish on such a light reel (55 oz), I got used to it quickly, and felt much less fatigued after the battle (as I am accustomed to using Tiagra 50 wide reels, weighing almost 90oz)... Ironically, The T-RX 30 puts out almost precisely twice the drag pressure as does the Tiagra 50wlrs (over 80lb)...
