Default Diego Garcia report

Hello all! I'm a long time lurker and finally got a report worthy enough to put on this great forum!

Well I got a chance to get out on the water this week and actually produced a few quality fish! My goal was to get out there and catch some fish on some new pinnacle stubby bent but rods and a couple ACE lures that Anthony(Wahooking) hooked me up with..

New Pinnacle Rod with Penn50vsw

Lures

We left the basin heading out toward the south part of the island and within 15 minutes had our first hit which was a chunky little skipjack on the smaller ACE lure. As soon as I set the rod that got hit we get another hit on the starboard rigger. Shortly a 15lb football yf comes over the side.

We troll south and get no love for a while.. I decide to but out the orange rapala and 10 mins. later we get a hit on it. Fish rips off 100yds of line then hunkers down and I pop it in second gear. 10mins later 55lbs of yf is in the boat.

Thirty mins later the rapala gets whacked again in a froth of white water.. the fish hauls azz and we know it’s a bigger fish. 25 mins later we get the fish to the boat and realize it’s a really nice fish. We put the steel in him and 85lbs of yf hits the deck.

Now crazy thing happens after the fish hits the deck. The starboard flat line with the wahooking lure starts bouncing.. It was comparable to when your bottom fishing and the bottom fish start pecking at your bait. I run to the rod and reel down on it.. All of a sudden 2-300lbs of blue marlin goes BALISTIC and pulls 300yds of line off the reel.. About 5 minutes later the hooks pull. Absolutely the coolest thing I’ve EVER seen!

After picking our jaws off the ground we start trolling south and end up getting a double hook up.. Now I’m all about pride and this fish honestly took it all from me! He whooped my azz for 45 minutes. One 75lb and 85lb fish.. The big fish hit the small ACE lure.

After we get those fish in we get a small barracuda on the small ACE.. We get set up and once again the wahooking gets some love from another blue marlin.. this fish was smaller and from the looks and feel of the mono shock leader was bill wrapped. We lost him after a short battle.

All this action took place before 11am! At 1115 small craft warning comes out and it’s time to go in…

When we get to the dock I realize that dang, we had a pretty alright day! 0 for 2 on blues, 5 yellowfin tuna between 15 and 85lbs, a skipjack tuna and a small cuda.. I ended up giving a large majority of the fish to marina and transportation personnel…

Anthony.. the pic of the lure didn't come out as well as i wish it would of. Not to worry though because I'll be out again next Thursday and will try to represent.

2 of the yellowfin caught wieghed 85lbs, 1 was 75 and another 55lbs...

I am beat to all hell a day after from battling 8-10ft seas all day and getting my azz handed to me by the last fish! I hope you all enjoy the pics!

Ben
