Default Tuna Fishing...Venice La.

This past Fri., Sat., and Sun., the weather couldn't have been better for late September. Capt. Bob got an overnighter off on Fri. night-Sat., with Jason Lees and friends. The night started out with mostly blackfin tuna, then YFT. They ended up with 15 blackfin, 4 Yellowfin and 4 A.J.'s. On Sunday he had the Murdock crew and they were able to get 6 YFT, 1 wahoo, and 1 dolphin. I was able to get the McClendon and Babin groups out on day trips Fri-Sat. Everyone wanted Tuna so that is what we went after. The bite was very good. Sat. was the best bite for me and my group that went 7 for 11 on YFT, broke off a small blue, and got about a 25lb. wahoo. First Wahoo I have seen in a while. The tuna bite should stay consistent as it normally does this time of the year. Most of the fish are in the 70-100lb. range. As we move deeper into fall the larger tuna will show up as well so we will have the 150+lbers in the mix. This is when you really get to see what type of physical condition you are in. There will be days that the tuna don't cooperate so we have plenty of A.J.'s and Cobia to go after also. This is one of the best times of the year to fish tuna so we are looking forward to catching plenty of fish for the rest of September and into October and November. We've got open days this month and next. The fishing should be great.

Luis - hold on to your boat praise. It's a TurdVee.

Nice catches though.

Default Whats up catch all?

Why do you call it a turdvee? Catch All. Is there anything that you would like to share as to enlighten everyone as to why you say that.

I'm glad you asked. I used to own a Twinvee. And I used to work at the now-defunct factory in Ft Pierce FL.

They were very poorly rigged boats using the cheapest components possible. Some dealers used to routinely re-rig them just to minimize the inevitable warranty claims they'd otherwise have. The factory using copper auto wire from NAPA instead of tinned wire is just one example.

My fishing buddies would stop back by my crib for a beer or three and watch me swearing & cussing as I repaired or replaced one item after another on my boat. One day, one of them said, "these boats are rigged so poorly, they're pieces of shit. They oughtta be called Turdvees!" And the nickname stuck.

Eventually, the only thing factory-original on my boat was the hull, the console, the t-top and the leaning post. Over time, I replaced everything else and was able to get back to fishing without worrying about breakdowns.

But apparently I've struck a nerve referring to your boat as a Turdvee. I apologize. It was not my intention to offend you nor to single you & your boat out. I was referring to Twinvees in general, not your boat in particular. Also, from what I hear around here on the North Shore, your charter operation is top of the line and consistently gets your customers onto lots of big fish.

as you can see, I took the joke to its logical conclusion and scraped off all the Twinvee logos and substituted them with....

No please do not apologize. I know that your not pointing fingers at my boats or me, but not everyone will see it that way. You have a right to your opinion. The Twin Vee has not pleased everyone as have plenty of other manufactured boats. I just wanted to know what your reasons were for calling them Turds. Mainly because I own two of them. It is good to get some feedback from other people. But I think the whole story should be told. There is more than meets the eye with this. I just don't see the problems you named being that big of a deal or any different than most boats on the market to call them a Turd in my opinion. But I have seen a lot go wrong with a lot of different boats.

But you are right! They did rig some boats absolutely horrible. Mainly the bilge pumps and wash down pumps, and where the wiring was laid. The price tag reflected it though. You get what you pay for in the marine industry. Most of the time. But, to give you and the readers an idea of how inconsistent most of the marine industry is a friend of mine has his 275,000.00 Yellowfin(most expensive 36' center console on the market) at the factory getting it re-rigged right now due to electrical fires, and getting electrolysis so bad it just about ate off one of the props. Most disturbing thing I have ever seen. Why or how did it happen, nobody knows yet. He also owns a 32' Twin Vee (120,000.00) and has never had a problem. Guess which one he prefers to fish on. The other boat I can give you an example of is several viking yachts 1,000,000.00+boat. They have had a lot of rigging and electrical problems. I will bet that the owners were cursing just like you were except they spent about 900,000 more than you. But in the end these big money guys brought their boats back and were refunded the full amount. Once they started mass producing, spitting out more than they should be, this is when the problems started. Warranty work is a write off for these boat companies so a lot of these companies are letting boats go today knowing they will have problems later. Did TV do the same, most likely. I am sure they knew a lot of the boats would have warranty claims. I can name problems that people have had with just about every boat on the market today. Most of the time there is usually a short between the steering wheel and the leaning post, boat owner for those who didn't get it. But I have seen a lot of boats with a lot of problems with big price tags and well known names. The way I see it you need to find the problems you could have before it happens. You won't find all of them but to find a few will help. Don't trust them to come perfect from the builder and most dealers have no clue that a bilge pump wire wasn't connected correctly or has already corroded from doing test runs with other potential buyer. Very rarely will brand new boats come trouble free. ZERO used boats will come trouble free.

Luckily I picked up on the way Twin Vee rigged boats and rigged everything I could myself, as you eventually did, or I would have more than likely had some minor issues to fix. If not I am sure I would have been calling them something worse than Turds. I also had some fiberglass reinforcements made in areas that seem to be lacking. I bought the hull and T-Top only. I had the engines and some wiring done locally on both boats. The rigging jobs, fiberglass, and I can name a lot of other things seemed to change from boat to boat. Some were done correctly and others seem to be a rush job. I did a lot of research and was lucky enough to be able to run and ride in numerous boats because of the business I am in and as of right now, being in the charter boat business, I would still choose the T.V. Hull because of the ride, speed, fuel economy, fishing space, and price tag. You were probably there when I had both 32' footers built. one of them is a little over 4yrs. old now and the other is 2 yrs. old. The 2005 TV has over 120,000 miles on it.

I am defending the boats that I make a living with so of course if your going to make a negative posting, then of course I am going to have to say something and not just let the post ride the way it was. If you would have started the thread you wouldn't have heard a peep from me.

No hard feelings and I do Thank You for your kind words in your post.

Next time your down in Venice give me a shout and I can give you an update on the fishing.
