Default Corner report 4/21-22

I talked to my buddy Capt Steve this morning and he had a very interesting report.

They ran over on Mon and got to the corner around 11:00.They start looking for the birds and find a nice pack working hard a few miles to the East. Now you have to remember this is a 68ft Feretti motor yacht. He watches the birds to see there working direction and starts to put out the lines.Just as they get 4 lines out they get covered up on 3 rods. The only problem is they are sailfish. They come tight on 2 and end up releasing 1.The other fish was on for about 5 min before it jumps off.Now remember he was tuna fishing so the sails came and ate 2 ceder plugs and another lure. He saw a few other sails in the wake as well. After releasing the sail they find they run up close to the birds again. They put out the spread and on the first pass get a double hook up again. This time they are the right kind and in a few mins have two nice yft on deck. One was around 25lbs the other about 35lbs.They bait those birds again but only the blackfins will eat. They catch some of those around 7 to 10lbs.They continued chasing birds getting more Blackfins and a bunch of big Dolphin. They were all cows 20lbs up 35lbs.He said the baby flyers were very thick and every fish they got was full of them.

They fished on Tues and could only pull more blacks and phins. They slid inshore for some bottom drifts and caught a bunch of grouper and snapper. The biggest grouper was a red around 15lbs and they got a nice mutton around 15lbs as well. plus a bunch of strawberry and some big yellowtails. Not bad for a day and a half fishing.I think it was wild to get covered up with sails on ceder plugs That must have been a wild scene under water. The sails and tuna not to mention the birds all working a big school of bait.

I was there sunday, got one decent yellowfin 15lbs, and probally 30 football sized blackfin. No big fish eating , found a dozen or so flocks of birds. Bringing 3 blackfins in on a plane , we actually caught so many my crew would race everytime we had knock downs to see how fast they could get them in, all 3 got demolished by the fastest sharks I have ever see. Damn things took a $40 dollar lure , 1 daisy chain of cedars and a single cedar plug. That sucked.

Last Year we caught two sails while trolling for Tuna on Marauders in the same area. Both hit at the same time 30ft off the transom. I guess they lose their minds once they hit the Bahamas like we do!
