Default Chunking with h-viz line...thoughts?

Hey guys,

What are your thoughts on chunking with hi-viz line.

99% of what we do is trolling so that is how we're set-up. This year we're thinking about trying to chunk some at night.

Anybody ever had any experience chunking with hi-viz line?

Thanks.

its fine so long as you have some sort of low vis leader, I would not tie it direct to the hook.

I HATE HI VIS YELLOW for chunking & live bait but Islandshark is right.
Tie on a 40' plus wind on leader & it will work in a pinch.

Thanks guys. Was thinking about tieing an albright knot from the 60lb hi-viz to 50 feet of 50lb mono then tieing another albright to 10 feet of 40lb fluoro.

Does that sound like I'm overcomplicating it?

Thanks.

Yea, thinking about trying it off Charleston.

I've done it plenty in Louisiana, but that's either been on the Lump or next to an oil rig.

The only nighttime chunking I've done has been on the drift under the rig lights. We've always used a swivel, but was wondering if that might have been part of our problem.

Never used hi-viz line in the gulf. We've also have mixed results on the lump the last few seasons. Just wanted to get some ideas how you guys do it on the Atlantic side of things since that's where we'll be.

Thanks.

Thanks guys.

It'll be a few weeks before we try it, but I'll be sure to report back how we do.

I have seen one YF caught on hi-viz tied to the hook but it was at night, I am no fan of the stuff under any conditions quite honestly

We generally use a 150lb Sampo Stay-Lok swivel, 5-6' of pink flurocarbon (40 or 60lb on 50lb main & 60 or 80lb on 80lb main) and Gamakatzu hd live bait hooks 6/0 - 9/0 depending on baits (squid, livebait, chunk or slab). We also use the Gam hd livebait circle hooks when we can find them - like the regular hook but with just the tip bent over - work really well and can use lighter leader safely. Havn't noticed a difference in bites whether the main line is hi-vis or not!
