Default Tuna Armada Trip Dates

So how about the weekend of May 2,3,4 for the big tuna festival? The bite should be hot by then. Let's have some more comments on places to stay to see if we have a consensus. Come on guys, tuna time is getting close so get your gear ready!

I am off the last week of March (22 to 30) and the week of April 12 to 18. I am ready to go either or both of those weeks. I suspect by mid April they will definitely be there. As far as choice for staying, I think its either Blue Marlin cove or Ocean Reef Yacht Club. Ocean Reef is close to Lucaya and allows you to fish either Tuna Canyon or Tuna Alley but is further from WPB and Boca. Blue Marlin Cove is closer by atleast 25 miles but further from Tuna Canyon. It is closer to White Sand Shoals and Mantanilla however which gives you the option to bottom fish or deep drop if the Tuna aren't there or aren't biting. I havent stayed at Blue Marlin but the accomodations are new and most likely nicer than Ocean Reef and they give you free ice. I think that sums up the pros and cons atleast to my thinking. Now it is up to everybody to weigh in with their feelings and availability for certain weeks, then we can contact both places and see if they have availability and if they want to give us a "group discount".

Eric, do you have a preference for where to go? West End or Lucaya?

I am fine with mid April leaving Sat 12th returning by Friday April 18th weather permitting.

Yeah I am fine with that for a short trip. Butch is leaning that way as well. we can fish Tuna Alley to the SW and go north to Mantanilla. If the tuna aren't there we will have to take it out on the Snapper and Grouper!!

Lets plan on Sat 12th thru Wed the 16th, weather permitting. I will call and try to make a reservation. If anybody else wants to join us, lets plan the Armada!

Default Work to live, not......

April works for me. The May date is too close to my tortugas reservations. I too will have to work on a wed return. A friday departure and a tuesday return will be an easier sell for me @ work. Either way I'm going. Fishing trips are priceless, and jobs are a dime a dozen. Work to live, not live to work.........DF2

QQ,
I will bring my sled to Lucaya on Spring break (March 28 - April 5). I may leave it behind and fly back to get it on the weekend of April 12. If all goes well I may be able to stretch out the return trip thru Monday.
You need to keep a weather eye out during April, the wind still blows hard out of the North and West, which turns West End into the Hawaiian Pipeline.
I like the safer play out of Lucaya, and April is usualy pretty consistent for the tuna. If the bite is off...you can always find a friendly bar to pass the time.
West End is great if the weather is right. but it sucks out loud if you are held in port due to bad seas.
I will watch this thread and see what develops.
I won't know the final plan until after April 5th, but I will post up any open slots for the plane ride over and return fishing trip.

I'm good with the April dates or the following week as well, if we don't have fair winds and following seas. The friday-tuesday sounds good as does the optional deep droppin if the tuna decide to ghost us. As for accomodations... the blue marlin sounds groovy... especially the free ice. I'll keep watchin to see what everyone decides... shawn

Hopefully Rumblefish or Steppin' out. If not, I may pop out of the coffin box of the Nauti Girl upon arrival

Its good to have options. Are we all in agreement, that west end gives us the best shot at the Tooners, as well as deepdropping for a back up plan?

Personally, I'd rather do Lucaya because of the night life, and due south and maybe a couple miles west of Lucaya is a sick area for the tuna.
But if we have a few people, BMC should be fun too. and we'll prolly get more fishing done than drinking.
