Default new at tarpon fishing

hi i just moved to spring hills, from nj.i was a big muski, bass and walleye fisherman there.but i guess i need to change my way of fishing here.i ve been catching some reds, nice fish! still trin for the snook . but i really want to hook into a tarpon. i have a 16 foot bass boat. i was wondering if that is safe to take out to get em. how far out do i need to go, best time to go baits and tackle to use. any help for this would be great.. thanks

There is no need to go out into the ocean if that is what you are asking. Just go into the intercoastal early morning or at night and freeline a live pinfish, shrimp, or if you dont have live bait just use any fish scraps you have and put in on the bottom. Just drift and if there is no action just change spots. You can usually hear or see them rolling if they are in the area. They tend to hang around the inlets more so you might also want to try the inlet near where you are fishing. Use a 50-60 lbs leader depending on what size fish you are looking to catch and use a 20 lbs spinning outfit. Hope this helps.....GOOD LUCK!

Yes, they hit all sorts of lures. Just try different ones to see which are more effective
