Default proper amount of weight?

i been using 32 ounce weights weights for sumtime and recently fished with 12-16 ounce weights. i like the way the lighter weight performes better.

Try mixing it up. Lighter lead on shallow baits and tips and 24-32 oz's on the deeper jug baits.

I use 20-24oz on everything. Trying to go lighter if I can.

All depends on the wind and current. There are times where we fish 4-6oz on the long shallow. Sometimes my deep baits only have 16-20oz. I like the smallest lead possible. Learned that one form my bass fishing days... Bass! Cono!
