Hi Guys,
I am a long time reader of this site but first-time poster. I know a lot of you from Captains Meetings and just general hanging out at the tackle shop. As someone who has become completely addicted to the sword fishery off South Florida of the last several years, I have tremendously appreciated all that you guys are sharing on this forum. I have to tell you that I think there is NOTHING F&$*!NG cooler than catching one of these animals right offshore in the daytime, so I wanted to share a recent story and some shots. Last Saturday, I went out with Bill Collector from Global Fish Mounts and Robert Arrington and Jeff Aderman of Reel Adventures, and we caught one in the daytime and had another one pulling drag. Rob, an up and coming underwater video celebrity and show host jumped in and filmed swimming with the fish along with a perfect release of this impressive animal. It was a legal fish, but it was in great shape so the release made us all feel so much better than a couple of steaks. Rob will be the host of the show with all the details set to air on August 25th. Bill and Bobby Boyle from RJ Boyle Studios have been trying to perfect this fairly elaborate and technical rig for catching these swords out there in the deep for sometime now and have an awesome way of doing this where the bite comes instantly. Bobby and Bill went out again on Friday and caught a nice 68” fork BRIGHT PUMPKIN fish during the day that went berserk at boatside. I missed that trip, but there will be others. I definitely think this is a real fishery once you have a perfected rig. I have had the pleasure of watching Bill from Global and Bobby Boyle perfect this rig, and it is really producing fish. I have to apologize for the quality of some of the photos, they were hurriedly captured from the video footage. I look forward to hearing you guys all talk about the daytime swordfishing…once again, we have an amazing resource in our backyards! -Ryan Merritt Hooked Up ![]() Still Hooked Up and shining in the sunlight ![]() Underwater shot of reviving the fish ![]() You can see Rob Arrington in the water in the foreground filming and Jeff Aderman on the boat filiming as we revived the fish. ![]() Successeful release as a healthy fish swims away. The footage of this is incredible. When you watch the show, you will see the fish swimming down and then look over his shoulder both ways for lurking makos!!

I don't have any pics of it, but if you give Bobby Boyle a shout, he can certainly provide you with all the details. You can reach him at 954.420.5001.
I have to head out of the office right now, but I think he should be around today. Marine Artist, Fishing Tackle, Marine Art, Swordfish Bills Painting - RJ Boyle Studios |

Reel Adventures will air the show this Saturday... Aug 25th. From the news I got, it will be very exciting to watch. The catching of Swords during the day is awesome but the real story here is that you can catch a fish on the bottom in 3 to 2000 ft and still release it successfully.
Taking pictures and a measurement is all that is needed to reproduce the fish..... then you can watch it swim away ![]() -Tek |

Hey Everybody, My name is Robert Arrington and I would like to thank all of you for the nice things you have said about me and the shots I got. Being in the water is second nature to me. I have been shooting underwater video for 11 years and have traveled much of the world. 2 years ago I was hired by Reel Adventures and that has alowed me to do some amazing things. The other night I was filming a night time swordy show and free dove down about 40 feet so I could get the shot of the Light and boat above then they dropped a squid passed me....it was off the hook. Anyway! thanks for all the support! "TGBTG"
