That is true, however, you are neglecting the fact that wile one fish may only be affected by pollutants, the species being commercially fished has to face both the problem of pollution AND fishing pressure. Pollution may only be taking a small toll, but coupled with fishing pressure the problem becomes a lot bigger.
what came first, the chicken or the egg

Personally, I don't believe there is a need to debate at all. It is simply common sense......if you want to have a viable reproducing resource we must keep the environment clean and impose restraints on the harvesting of species within that environment. It is simple, logical and undeniable.

The reason that the issue has become clouded is strictly due to politics and greed!!!!

Man, I was feeling bad for killing 3 swords in a day. Now I'm really feeling bad for sinking steel in any of the swords after reading all of this.

So Mr. Neptune:

Then, How do you you suggest we go about aligning all of our brain impulses into a common goal that is beneficial to our near term offspring, and our own 30 year desires .. and .. beyond... ?

I can tell you that Dictatorship does the job: or does it?

When human population density is high, it becomes a rat race. ( And I am sure that you heard of the pack rat before.) That is the more root cause, than pollution even. We all seek to blame the more obvious, the lesser benign evil first, before we are willing to strike the nail on the head.

So now that someone has mentioned the pollution topic as being the the Next Level cause: at some point we will come full circle, nipping little thorn branches along that path, to remedy, the more immediate concerns, that some people have the capacity to remedy. Still yet without the complete cure.

So let's start in baby steps:

Can we handle our own EEZ? with excellent performance?

This requires excellence from within as a majority factor.

Therefore, we must unite the fragments into a greater good: without lessening One-I-O-ta, the grass roots foundation and fundamental (human) rights. (This means that State's rights is not forgotten, over ruled, nor relinqueshed.)

This is my philosophical night because no spouses are interjecting anything.

The WWW has enabled a communication level that was not readily available before: It is VERY GOOD indeed.

But we are subject to interuptions that are very diverse.

So without a debate/discussion we are simply whacking our dicks and accomplishing nothing, without a clear and survirable purpose.

Sorry for the graphic demo, and no insult intended, but since you can't see my hands waving in classic Italian style, words are the only remedy over forum posts. (Well pictures work too. )
