Default Refurbishing Old Skirts

Can anyone give me some much needed advice on any kind of way to clean up an older skirt that hasn't been used in quite some time. I have a few awesome skirts that are gummy and nasty to handle.(If this is at all possible)

Thanks a ton,

Dakotah

They're all gummy rubber.

I'll keep that in mind for future needs though.

If they are vinyl skirts ... use goo gone or goof off to wipe them down followed by a dusting of talcum powder. If they're rubber ... they're toast ... toss 'em.
You can buy some nice replacement skirts from Black Bart's shop ... either at the shop in Riviera Beach or from his website.

googone?
cr656?
wd40?
soap water?
buy new ones
that orange stuff you use to wash greasy ass hands/

try those on your least favorite one. only do like one string of the skirt untill you are sure which product works best with out damaging the skirt

I've used soap and water on one and definitely helped out but the skirt wasn't in very bad condition. My Dad gave me the go ahead to use lysol cleaner that's in a spray bottle like a glass cleaner bottle. Again, it definitely helped out but didn't bring them back to total life. I'm trying to find the pledge stuff but I don't think we have it in stock. I could take goof off to it but I'm not sure how that will work...?

I do not recommend any kind of cleaning products, they will tend to strip out the oils in the rubber and dry them out. I only ever wash my lures in fresh water, then spray and rub down with furniture polish. 'OLD ENGLISH' Almond flavour is cheap and works great. Will shine up the lure heads too.

Default Sounds like those expensive lures need refurbishing.

I have always discarded the inexpensive skirts that may have gotten gummed up. But I would just wonder how Cod Liver oil would work out or Menhaden oil which I would think would smell nice and fishy, for a quick fix.

BTW - Ballyhood Lures does lure tune-ups "quoted from Darryl Primrose's Home page: PRODUCTS

? Another question for the experts ? Is WD-40 safe to use on tackle gear, including hooks and other tackle items? I thought I have read somewhere that it is derived from fish oils and that it was even banned from some freshwater fishing tournaments (not allowed to spray on lures, etc., perhaps because it is a fish attractant) ??????

I have also heard of some fishermen being very sensitive about NOT getting sunscreen or even cigarette flavor onto terminal tackle. (Maybe even Bananas - ) So I just wonder if that is truly a significant concern or not and whether the WD-40 could have similar detrimental effects (or perhaps the opposite if it smells good to fish).

Personally, I spray WD-40 onto my tackle gear all the time because I seem to always get salt water spray into the box compartments. And I just hate rusty stuff.

Any sound advice on these inquiries?

I think it is petrolium based.

WD-40 is petr. based and I've heard it is best not to get it on mono. As far as scent it won't hurt a thing. Bass fisherman used to spray it on rubber worms as an attractant (ancient Chinese secret)! By the way if you dip hooks, swivels, etc. in olive oil when you are done with them it puts a coating on them and keeps the rust off. You can keep some in a jar and dip your good hooks before you put them back in your box or bucket.
