Default Notice all the small birds off shore !

I was fishing with Chris(IGOTBENIFITS) last Sat and noticed lots of small finches off shore..this one landed on my rod while deep dropping ... it stayed on the line for 5 min ... fish were not biting so it was cool to watch the finch resting for a few mins up close ...nice pic Chris !

We had a pair of them hangout in the boat for about 15 minutes last weekend. Pretty cool to see.

Off Shore Finch population is due to the smoke from the fires making them high as a kite and this is the only place to run too

we had big flocks of them heading NW the last week I saw @ least 4 groupes of over 100 birds. We had a few solo birds land on the rigger cables to take a break.

they are migrating north like they always do.used to see them all the way up the east coastin the late spring.the songbirds were neat but the sea eagles and fish hawks that used to land in the rigging were amazing birds

When I used to fish the NE canyons it was always a good thing when tuna chicks landed on the boat. The only problem was soon after, the bite would start and you wound up having to worry everything else plus the birds on the deck. I always feared the SPLAT!

When you get a strong west wind during their migration they get blown offshore and in deep $h!T. They usually fly right up the coast.

I used to love when the mother carey's chickens would land on the boat.I would take them up to the bridge and run back down to the pit for the bite.

It is a normal migration...right around this time of year they are all over in N carolina. They are known as tuna birds because the tuna are usually blowing up when you see them. Usually they are good luck. Not coincidently, the skippies have been going nuts off of Stuart (this was a few weeks ago, since I have been out of town)

You'll find them out in the Gulf off the panhandle this time of year too. We get purple martins and other similar birds. Usually they're tired asses, and are willing to land on anything, including rod tips, rigger cables, hats, railings, and cleats. We've had 4 inside the wheelhouse for the 50 mile ride home before. When we reached the dock we carried each one of them outside the wheelhouse and released them. They're so tired that they're incredibly docile. I've had people fish with them on their rod tips and tops of their hats for 20 minutes at a time.
