Default 3 year old Blue and Gold Macaw needs a good home.

Really sad day for me but I have to get rid of my Blue & Gold Macaw, "Morgan" as in Capt. Morgan.
I want her to go to someone I who can check into how she's doing every once in a while. She is a very cool bird and I'd like her to go to another fishermen who can handle a bird of this size. She also talks at least a dozen words. I have to keep her outside, and she wants to be inside where all the action is. She loves to be around people. She will at times squawk loud until I bring her inside or go out to play with her. Then she is great. My place is just too small to keep her in side like most people do. It is truly a sad time for me but I have to deal with a condo association full of Nazis.
I will not sell her, as she is like a child to me, but I will want to check out her new accommodations before any decision is made.

Stewart

Screw'em, Fight the condo association. Make them come after you and try and take you to court. I have a few rentals belive me it's not easy to have a tenant remove a pet.

Your issue is diffrent, but I would spend a few bucks and build a relationship with a lawer. You still know the lawer that closed on your condo?

Good luck finding it a home

I just got a Siberian Husky -He is 17 wks old, all white with blue eyes. I was thinking of adding Stewarts Macaw to my managerie-do you think the Husky would try to hurt it? Mine is so sweet with other dogs but I havent had him around cats or birds yet.

Our is a mix Husky/Dalmatian she is a humiliation very cool dog with the markings and one blue eye, and one brown eye.

She loves birds, and any other critters that enter the yard, she actually catches birds in flight very cool to watch, she is very fast and can jump from a sitting/laying postion just about straight up four feet off the ground and that is how she catches the birds

Great dog with other animals her size, BTW my wife used to breed Husky's and hers used to catch birds in flight as well.

Believe it or not, Birds and dogs usually get along well, and form a mutual respect for each other. If provoked, the Macaw has a worse bite than the dog., and the dogs seem to know it. BUT if the dog is aggressive towards other animals I would not chance it. The dog may lose the fight.
It very much depends on the dog’s personality.
The Macaw will learn the commands that it hears you giving the dog, and you will find it making your dog "sit", "roll over", or what ever it hears you doing.

Think it over and let me know.

She will go to the best home I can find for her. Anyone interested will have to come over to meet her and see if they can handle her. I will be honest if I think she is too much for the person to handle. I am not looking just to get rid of her. She is like a child to me, and will only go to a good home.
Just coming over to see her will not guarantee she goes home with you. It has to be right for her also. After you meet her I will give you a few days to think it over before any final decisions.
Thanks

Definately agree with the bite aspect
I worked for a few years at the old Parrot Jungle doing the shows.
They are as smart as any dog too.

I would love to have it but I don't have the time. Good luck

Very smart birds. How old is she? How long have you had her? Those birds need a lot of attention. The wrong owner could loose a finger if the bird does not trust them, or handle them right. Or the bird could mutilate itself if it is not happy. I still have 2 of 4 dogs, which have lived with a male Blue & Gold for a while. No the bird did not kill 2 of them. Old age did. Most dogs can get along with these birds, the bird might be a different story.

PM me if you want to talk more.

One more time. She is about 3 years old and a very cool bird, not vicious or mean. She will need to get to know you before you are able to handle her like I do. If anyone is interested they will have to come by and meet her. I will not let her go to someone that can't handle her, and if for some reason it doesn't work out she is to be returned to me, and I will find someone who can. Anyone that has ever had a parrot knows that you will take a nip every now and then. With the group of "manly men" on this forum I wouldn't think any of you would be worried. Blue & Gold Macaws go for $800-$2000 she is not to be resold!

PS. Sorry, Jets fans need not apply.

yep, that's one of the problems with birds. people get them as a fad not realizing how long they live. getting rid of a bird with the intelligence of a young child, and family units that last for decades is the reason lots of birds are so mean to people. its the same as telling your 4 year old you don't want them any more. can you imagine the distress that child goes through. The birds have it the same just people don't realize it.

So true!
I save her from a bad environment 2 years ago, she was not purchased from a pet shop.
Baja,
It's all in good humor. Jets bring their best game when they play us. It's always a major NFL event and the Dolphins just wouldn't be the same if we didn't have the Jets as our rivals. Should be an interesting year.

Thanks to all. I have a few people coming over to see her next week.
If for any reason it don't workout I'll repost again.
