Default formula for determining weight

Is there a formula to determine what a sword weighs by measuring lenght and girth? what does a 55" sword weigh approximately?

Default formula

The standard formula is (lengthXgirthXgirth)/800

If you look at the fish in the link it is 215 lbs and 75 in in length. Using a little algebra you get a girth of around 48 inches. Your girth to length ratio is about 64%. Assuming your fish is of the same proportions you would have about a 35 inch girth and a weight of 85lbs. Obviously girth is a big factor in the weight and at least for me very hard to eyeball on any fish.

Default A weight chart.

Admin Mike:

I have been meaning to ask you if you could post an example chart in the magazine section of the forum that has some various examples of actual measurements and weights of fish that have been caught. Plus the formula.

Cross roads: This is a 56" and it weighed 75 lbs. (measured at LHP scale just before going to the fillet table) Did not get the girth measurement though. http://www.swordfishingcentral.com/a..._021.sized.jpg

Koko: A Great picture isn't it. Now... How much do you think Bullfighter weighs, estimating a girth of 34" without a length measurement ? [Fisherman formula: (Length x girth x girth) / 475 ]

The fisherman is about 225...give or take

The girth plays a huge roll; I've caught 55 inch fish that weigh 90 lbs. and seen 56 inch fish that weigh 76 lbs...

Default Crunching the numbers.

Bullfighter:

Maybe the fisherman's formula is off a little bit.

Assuming the 34" girth was correct that would put you at a length of 92" or 7' 8". Although you look pretty high up in that photo. Or by recrunching the numbers with a revised girth of 39", that would put you at 70" or 5" 10".

But being on the Bullish side (more mass in a smaller package) we could probably trim a couple off the girth number, to an estimate at 36-37" .

Again, it is only an approximation formula.

P.S. - that was the fish that we brought back to the dock, the Eve before Christmas Eve, while you, Swordslasher and Allotta Bull were out there piddlin' around for 5 hours and change with that 58 incher and "Tiney", Elvis' cousin. Maybe next time you can make it to Jupiter. Mondo.
