Well it started out as a bumpy ride out but we wound up near the triple humps ..started to put out the first rod ..it dropped down 50 ft and starts jumping ... already I`m thinking a sword fish ... after a few more times I see a dolphin jumping ... but nothing on the rod ... we reel it back and a small school of dolphin are following whats left of the squid ... I quickly grab my spinning rod and throw out a dead pilchard ... hooked a 5# dolphin ... but noticed two bigger fish down deep ... get it unhook and throw out another bait ... while letting line out ... another fish takes line .... it`s much bigger ! after a 25min fight .. landed a 20# bull in the boat .... we run back out since it was a fast drift to the NW .. set up three lines ... 75ft float , 150 float and a tip line which we went back and forth from 300 to 500 ft .... nothing happened .. no slashed baits ! at 10:30 we decided to call it a night ... started bring all the lines in ... the last one to come in was the furthest out (75`float ) I started to reel it in slowly ... then noticed the line getting tight and the float goes under ... Fish On ! Ray gets straped in to the harness and starts a tug of war with the sword ... it comes to the surface .. then goes down to 500ft ... this goes on for a good 45min ... as soon as we gained line it would run back down to 500ft ...near the end we gained line to the 200ft mark and then it made a run back down to the 500 ft mark ..then it happens ... line goes slack ... sword pulled the hook ... all we have to show for it is photo`s of Ray fighting the Sword .....All in all it was a nice night out on the dark side ..would have been nice to have a fat sword in the boat ... but that`s Fishing ...We`ll get him next time ...!

We went 0-0 tonight with two slashed baits. Did have a fish swim into the light which was very cool!

It swam passed the boat never got to see it .. it was on the surface 3 times .. but always went down to the 500 ft mark .. we knew it was a good sized sword just by the way it was taking line ....

Nice report Willie,

Too bad that one pulled on you Ray. I cant believe all the Dolphin that are out there. Everyone is catching in day or night, does not seem to matter. We grabbed a 35 pounder during the tourney last week.

Don
