0/0 fishing inshore of the 50. Winds were blowing offshore. Know a guy that got 2 pups in about 13-1400 ft. Some other guy back at the marina got a 80lb sword, deep water as well.

Cary:

Hope that 300 lb.er spies your Electrolume tonight. You see, Kevin K. is giving you a break from his beginners good luck streak.

Kevin K: did you have to buy a deep-freeze box after last weeks adventure?

My wife is complaining because she has no place to stash the ice cream. What is a man going to do? I got it: go fishing just once more.

RiskTaker,
Sure did. I gave my pops allllooootttt!!! of the fish so he'd go on a diet. Went over the house monday and there was a new freezer in the garage. I think I'll take a trip to baitbusters in Miami and fill up on some cheap cases of bait and fill it up before he does.
P.S. Everybody has a shelf reserved for ice cream, I feel for your wife, can't do without Ben&Jerry's Cherry Garcia.
I'll be joining you at the next meeting hopefully.
Tight lines, kevin

Good job SC. Sounds like you were one of the few that caught last night. I'll see you out there Threesenough. I should be out front somewhere.

Default Have you considered waxline marks?

Kevin:

If it is mono, it will likely wash out after a while, but should work pretty good on light colored Spectra. But I do not do it by that method.

I have 50 TWs with 100 yds. of 80# mono topshot plus a wind-on leader. Underneath is 80# Power Pro. (But Jerry Brown hollow core is softer to the touch). On this I tie a series of half hitches with waxed rigging floss. This serves to mark lengths plus I have captive loops that serve as my marks for EL, lead-weight and Balloon pre-sets. I know my mono goes to 300 ft. and marks starting on spectra are 4-5 and 600 ft.

To do that I used a swifty line spool connected to a drill with a line counter. Once I was done with one rod, I got someone to slowly un-drill as I loaded line back onto the reel.

The nice thing about the wax line is that you can see it as well as feel it. So you could actually pay out line in a very dim lighting situation and still know how much line is out (or coming back in with that monster fish on). But every angler has his own preference: I like that one.

Yeah I'd like to be able to rig with wax line. But I don't have roller guides. Won't the wax line get stuck or maybe even knock a guide out? What do you think.

Default Fixed guides

Kevin:

I don't know the answer to that one. Without rollers you have a valid concern. You could simply rely on you, or a line counter until you get a rod with all roller guides. But I surely find it a pleasure to have line marks by brail. Improvise and make do with what you have until then. Hell, I should be asking you for advice on how to catch those big fish! I would like to catch a big one someday just to be humbled by their sheer power and stamina. But I am fairly content landing any fish between 80 - 150 lbs. Bigger fish have had more snacks, for bio-accumulating methylmercury: but don't worry with a 200 lb.er, since that is not an everyday event and they can go much larger still. Just don't eat 3 lbs. a week, over many weeks in a row.

Another option is to simply peel out line by the fathom method or arm span lengths. Peel off 20 and you are at 100', 40 , 60....

Since you were so lucky slamming that monster fish on your first night out, perhaps you can take your sweet ole time to get your tackle situation in order, rather than your technique. But the fish are not discrimanatory: put a squid out on a yo-yo and you may have good luck just the same. But you may want to invite a Guajiro out to show you how it is done.

I have many good memories launching from Palmetto Ramp from my younger days and Slalom skiing all the way to Spanish River Road. Stokin.

I wish my lines marked w/ waxed thread, and only one rod is full rollers. The only problem w/ the thread and regular guides is it will get stuck and slide. You shouldn't have a problem w/ knocking out guides.

Sam,

Not our best night- no swords. Got some nice Dolphin and Tuna on the way out.

I can not imagine the fish are hungry with the amount of tinkers we have been having around the boat. Seems like acres of them. Now add in all the jelly fish glowing around the boat we were pretty entertained.

Watched the rain approach on the radar around 11:15 and called it a night. Just beat the rain on the way in.
