I had some friends fish from Islandmorda back up to Miami last night and they both did not catch any swords. It seems like my streak of big fish is not over yet, we caught a 83' fish last night in only 20 minutes. Hope my good luck isn't thru with 5 fish over 200lbs in last 5 weeks. :cool[/b]

Did a solo trip trip the other night 1/28. Ran into a huge weedline in 300ft of H2O off the Tennaco on the way out. Boated 3 dolphin. Ran out of light and headed out to the grounds in glass. Cruized out at 36mph sitting down, like riding out in a Caddilac... Set up my spread. 2 jugs, 2 tips. 200, 300 and 100, 175 and a freeline. Started at the 49. About 45 minutes and the outside jug gets hit. Good fish! I tighten the drag to about 15 and he keeps taking line. I tighten down to 23 ( my preset ) and after 1/2 hour I get him close to the boat. I set the rod into the far rod holder and try to grab the leader. He runs again about 50 yards and then straight down. I decide to go to work and start making up line. First sign of the light stick and I pull the hooks... So my streak is broken 2 trips, 2 fish boated and another released.
I hear a US Navy warship hailing a SF boat about 6-8 miles north of me. They were practicing flight maneuvers and wanted a 6 mile perimiter. That was on 16. I pick up and run south again. This time I set up on the 49.5
I have tinkers all around the boat on this drift. Also 2 large schools of squids come into the lights. A swordie comes into the light chasing tinkers and is gone as fast as he appeared. I bring up a tip rod in hopes that it might get hit but notta. Waited about an hour and saw nothing/no hits. I heard (threesenough?) on 72 saying they see the front on their radar approaching and are going to pack it in. I look north and the sky is black! Forcast calls for it to get snotty after midnight so with dolphin in the fishbox I decide to call it a night. After pulling in the spread I get rained on as I'm leaving. I run in at 36 and only get about 5 minutes of rain. What an incredible night at sea. Like Jimmy Buffett say's, " You had to be there".

I was out there also hursday night. Could'nt get tight on a fish. We saw flashing Jellyfish and huge squids inside the 50 line, they were brighter than the Lps and I could see them past the furthest ballon. We had Tinkers, caught a bunch but never got a hit.

Default Pirata post meridian and a day over 40.

Capt. Ed:

to the Grounds in Glass....Really! What does the weather man know, anyway? ops:

I guess you must simply be there, do that., to know that....

Somehow, wifey said NO fishing this weekend. But we are still , managing to go on the boat, momentarily even.

Get this, with Capt. Ed. Not you, of course. But there is another Capt. Ed. along with, Ronnie the Pirata, and all those small Bikini suits. Today he is over 40. Will be at Sands, at least for a while. Need to change out of the birthday suit and change over to the swimsuit.

Arrg, irat: Pass over the Mimosas, or we'll KEEL Haul you, matee. RT

P.S. - Those Navy vessels need to stay away from the swordfish grounds unless they are putting lines in the water.. Got ta go and get the priorities right. Let's hope the elections go well to allow many of those in uniform more fishing opportunities down the road, rather than sorties on the swordgrounds. Two cents $US.02, and not to pirate the post completely. :salut:
