Talking 1st Sword on the Troll

We only had 1 slashed bait and 1 drag pulled for about 5 seconds before line out in the tournament. Slow night. Being it was 2am, and we had to head all the way back to homestead, I (most of my crew was now in the cabin sleeping) decided to experiment with trolling for swords for a while. I put out a 4 line spread using lures. About an hour went by, when one of my crew came out from the cabin and asked what I was doing. As I was explaining to him how I set up the spread, the stbd rigger snaps and the 50w starts screaming. I grabbed the rod and set the hook, then pass the rod to my buddy as I must get back to the helm. I stuck my head in the cabin to get the rest of the crew awake and start clearing lines. Lines are now cleared and the fish is still taking line at an incredible rate. I start to back down on the fish as we were coming to the end of the spool. Finally, it stopped running and we got most of the line back before it made another run. At this point we still had no idea what we had hooked. Now the fish had gone deep, but we were gaining line. Finally, we see the wind on leader and soon to follow was a swordfish. He didn't like the boat and made his final run. 10 min. later we pulled a 58" into the boat. It may not be a big fish, but it was the 1st on the troll.

Sweet Thumper.
Looks like we have another convinced that trolling works. Nothing like a swordy hitting a trolled lure.

I have some new designs for Swordfish Lures coming out soon, but patent lawyers are putting me on hold until they finalize the paperwork.

Patenting is the most tedious process

btw.....if you would like to educate yourself on everything to do with patenting process I have an awesome book that you can borrow to read. It is worth its weight in gold.

Need any testers for said lures?

Johnny, I'm going to put some out there to some forum guys, I'll defiantly hook you up. Proto types for all lure designs have been tested and work well. I've been doing my own R&D for the past 5 years now. The ones that didn't work as well as I wanted have been junked and I'm only going with what works.
Thanks for the support, you won't be disappointed. Nothing sloppy in my spread, everything to tournament standards.
This is just a tease, but I also have a new gadget to be used when drifting for swords, that will need to be tested. I almost spooged my self when I came up with the idea, it is so sweet.
Get ready for "Night Fighter Lures" strictly for Swordfish.

Trolling started about 2:30am fish hit at 3:30am
Trolling speed was about 4 to 4.5 knots into the gulf stream. Gulf stream was 3.5 -4.0 kts.

As for lures, the spread had two from Islandshark : Phoebe & Saturn, both on flatlines. On the riggers I used smaller lures : 9" Moldcraft glow lure , & 9" Primo.

As for lure color, I have heard of them hitting anything from dark to white. I guess it depends on the night.

This was my first time trying, so I don't have all the answers. I will keep trying and let you guys know how things work out.

I have a whole bag of swordfish trolling lures that work! I just haven't used any of 'em yet.
