Default L/P Hooks

I had a friend stop by L/P to pick up some hooks today and the price was raised to $75 I am returning the box tommorow.

Sooooo......I need to switch hooks. I think I am going to support QuickRig from now on as I was searching their website the other day and noticed this comment

"We do not sell to longliners. QuickRig prides itself in supporting sportfishermen only. In good conscience and faith we are helping to protect the resources we fish"

Just some food for thought

QuickRig Corporation | Custom Hooks, Terminal Tackle and More..

I have also been in the process of slowly selling my L/P lights to replace with Seamaster, not just because Seamaster is better quality but for the same principles. If anybody wants a deal on L/P lights shoot me an IM.

If you are refferring to the snellable ones they are great hooks, and actually the only single (as opposed to double) hook I have yet to try from the company. I was looking for a snellable big game hook for a long time, and then I walked into Ray's in Boca and found those. They are sharp as shit and strong......they are expensive, but worth it. I do with they would sell the 30 degree offset that is capable of being snelled to the back side instead of the front.

We have been using there other hooks for Wahoo trolling for a while and they are great.

I've noticed those Quick Rig products are a bit pricey. But then again, I usually buy the stainless Mustad 10/0 10-packs for $60... so what the hell am I complaining about?

I am happy to fully endorse QuickRig, Howard is a great guy who has helped me out over the last couple of years, always going the extra mile.

BahamaLures are all rigged exclusively with QuickRig hooks, I use his ball bearing snaps on my wind-on leaders and the CB hooks for my deep drop rigs. Never had a single problem, failure or complaint with any QR products.

QQ - thanks for lunch the MERLIN hooks can be snelled but that is not really why the eye is bent over. This is a trap hook, you attach the eye with a simple loop allowing the hook to swing. On the strike the angle provides a turning moment that helps drive the hook point into the jaw of the fish.

I use the Southern Tuna style and love them, I am trying out the Hays hooks but have no fish on one yet. They are apparantly for billfish mostly, they have a very strong and short penetrating point that will not bend over.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

After reviewing my 2 page reply to this thread... I have condensed it down to this....

1st... QR has great products.

2nd... Sea Master IS ALSO a Long Line company from Taiwan. So if you don't want to support a LL company, You'll need to give up Swordfishing most likely.

3rd... For .75 cents a hook... show me a better hook for the money for catching Swordfish.

I guess we're gonna have to go back to using glow-sticks from the local Party-Mart.

News: Mustad Longline

For those of you who didn't know, Mustad is one of the largest producers of long line hooks in the world (90% global market share). I think you will have a hard time finding swordfish gear that is not commercially backed. I like your idea though. I've never heard of Quick Rig before, nice looking hooks!

If it lights up and it goes on your line it was probably made for the commercial market. Save a sailfish and kill a cat! Better yet kill all of the japs and italians and taiwanese and whoever else kills fish with total disregard! Then again nobody saved me any buffalo.

After reviewing my 2 page reply to this thread... I have condensed it down to this....

2 pages

1st... QR has great products.

Most definitely, and even better principles

2nd... Sea Master IS ALSO a Long Line company from Taiwan. So if you don't want to support a LL company, You'll need to give up Swordfishing most likely.

I am well aware of the parent company....at least they are imported and distributed by somebody that is on our side as to keeping the closed zone closed.

3rd... For .75 cents a hook... show me a better hook for the money for catching Swordfish.

Agree completely.....the best advantage is that you can rig all of your baits ahead of time at that cost and that is the main reason I was so fond of them. They are still my favorite hook, and .75 is definitely not a high price to pay for a hook. The hooks underwent changes in the finish as of lately, I dont know if this was to cut cost or whatever. Either way, they are still a very quality hook.

That being said, I am switching hooks and going to Quick Rig. Out of principle, and because I am not going to pay that extra money. Also because there have been some snap swivel issues on boats I have been on, and though I have been reluctant to crimp every leader, I am converting. To each his own, perhaps I should have titled the thread Quick Rig Hooks I have been slowly switching to the Seamaster's for awhile, personally I just think it is a better product.
No need for a debate, to each his own Just wanted to give a heads up on the price, I wonder if it went up for the commercial boats as well. Either way, nobody has to follow my rationale, and judging by the IM's to buy the lights or the hooks from me, I dont think anybody cares

Cool....I like snelling a hook above when I use live bait. That was the only hook I have found thus far that is snellable with the line coming straight off the shaft. They are great hooks. I am going to ask Howard if he will produce some that have the offset towards the back of the hook

The products are a bit pricey, but its all relative. If anybody wants to check them out, Ray's in Boca carries nearly every one of his hooks.

For 75 cents, still and deal, but I too am not fond of where LP's stands on the closed zones and all that political crap.
And like Johnny Pointed out, atleast the SeaMaster guy down here is on our side. And I like those lights better anyway.

Johnny, call me back after 2....

Nick and everybody else,

I am not suggesting that we stop buying anybody that manufactures a long line product as Tek suggested.......business is business.

I am simply saying I am no longer going to support a company that is adamant about wanting to reopen the closed zone.

There is nothing more to it, it is a personal decision and that is where I stand. I dont care if I have to change the way I rig squid or spend some extra money. From now on, I will not support that company or use their products.

Darryn,

Unfortunately my boat is in the shop and I have exams in two weeks. But if you can get me on a boat, I am ready and willing.....Although I might have to go out with QQ first
