Does anyone log the frequency (or lack of) sword bites in relation to the timing of the daily moonrise and moonset ? Or do you have an opinion about the position of the moon ( when its directly overhead, low on the horizion, etc.) and its effect on the bite, if any?
I have heard varying opinions about how hot the bite is or isn't before the moon "pops", versus when it's directly overhead, but I haven't heard anything consistent. |

I've had mixed results. Usually the moon rise turns on a bite right away, but thats to not say that is always the case.
However, I always like to make sure I am soaking all my baits at the appropriate time just before the moon starts to break.

When fishing swordfish tournaments over the past couple of years I have always noticed that when that moon rises there is always a little flurry of bites and hookups up and down the line.

I was out last night. I had tinkers around my boat all night. We got two bites between 7- 11. The Moon rise was at 10 but due to clouds off to the east it didn't show itself until about 11. From 11 to 1:30 we had 3 more bites and while boating a 62" a larger swordie swam right up to the light uninterested in our baits 150- 200lb. We had one fish sneak our tip rod up and start screaming across the surface he picked it from 600' never pulled drag we saw the light racing around on the opposite side of the boat and tried getting tight and right as we got tight pulled the hooks 100' away. Ended up 1-4 on the solid hook ups 2 or 3 slashed baits. Caught the one fish on a tinker at 100'.
