Default Key West Sword trip 3/3/07

Headed out yesterday at 1:30. Trolled from 300 feet to the Middle crack. Had one monster fish that looked like a big YF crash a Ballyhoo in 735 feet. Left a huge hole in the ocean but missed the bait.

Had 2 Wahoo hits on floating debris a few miles east of Middle Crack.

Nothing stuck....

Hit the East Crack at sundown and current was 2.7-3 kts due east.

3 or 4 other boats in the area.

Had 2 Sharks hit when we drifted into 950. Released them and had 2 Sword hits in 875. Neither stuck.

Made 5 drifts in deeper water ...nothing.

Moved back into 900 and made 2 more drifts through East Crack. Had a 125#er come right to the SwordLight and move off too quick to drop a bait or grab the Poon.

Overall it was a slow bite with a bright moon and flat calm seas.

Be out again next week.

Nice work.

Fish a flatline with no lead just on the edge of the glow from the light. That way when one pops up, you're already in the water.

Default Flatline

We had a rod ready for a Shark with 400# wire but the live Tinker was in the Livewell and we did not have time to pin it on before he bolted.

I will be fishing a 4th rod right in the light from now on.

I caught the tinker down 150' on a 9" artificial squid.

The aftificial had one nice hit and the 2 dead squids got the remaining hookups.

There were no big schools of Tinks like I usually find on the Middle Crack, West Crack and Marquesa Trench. I had 2" baits and tons of jellyfish and little creatures on the light if I was less than 950' but over that the water was crystal clear and barren

Incognito:

I was also out there Saturday.

Didn't see or hear you on the radio.

What channel do you monitor, 78?

We ended up with 2: 52 and 56"s

Default KW

usually on 72.

Saw a big SF that was outside us most of the time and two smaller boats that were swapping drifts with us.

WTG on the fish. Could you give a location for where you were drifting?

Thanks

Christopher

Hey Chris:

We fished the Wall all the way from West Crack to East of the East Crack.

Only had 3 hits all night: One fish in 1700' of water 3 mi west of East Crack, and 2 hits in 850 and 900' 5 mi east of the East Crack

Thanks for the info guys, I'm scouting out different places that we could set a few boats up on when we come down from East Central Florida as a group from the FS Forum. We have 20 boats coming down but only a few are sword capable. I think you guys are too far from Key Colony Beach/Marathon so I'll have to keep on looking. Thanks anyways!
