No but isnt that considered the Bahamas? Better be careful that you dont get your boat confiscated. Or worse.....

I believe it is the Bahamas, and they will confiscate your boat if you have fish onboard and you have not first cleared in. Otherwise you are poaching....

I fished Cay Sal this last weekend we Marlin trolled all afternoon, swordfished all night and Wahoo trolled the next morning. No Marlin, No Swords, only sharks, but we did catch some Wahoos. We swordfished from 1600 to 2000+, the wind was ripping, no current and dirty water out to around 1800. Not much structure to fish to swordfish to like we have of So Fla. It was a fun trip.
It did get pretty rough so we quit swording and anchored in 60 ft till morning so watch the weather. I have heard of swords being caught in Cay Sal though. Give it a try. |

I was asking if anybody has fished around Kay Sal for swordfish with any luck.
It is up to the boat owner if he wants to clear and do it legally or take his chances. If you clear customs you can fish all you want for whatever you want. It's up to each individual to follow rules and regs. |

And since 9/11 the US Coast Guard and FL marine patrol are keeping a look out for boats that are not clearing customs and immigration from the Bahamas. I was pulled over just inside the Boynton inlet when I returned last March and they tortured me for over an hour and I was completely legal. I have a documented vessel with US customs sticker and even had a sales receipt for the lobsters and conch that we had on board. I wont even tell you about the problems I had with the Bahamians at West End when they werent there during normal working hours to clear me!! They have really taken the fun out of it, so be careful!!

Be very careful about Cay Sal. I spend alot of time in Marathon and Cay Sal is very heavily patrolled by the USCG especially this time of year and going into the summer. There are BDF personell on the Cutters. I have been runnung to Cat Cay and clearing and then going to Cay Sal. ALso with the New Regs they are looking to make an example of somebody. I know for a fact that the "Hill" is a real nasty place to have to visit.

there are fish on the east side of the bank, nothing to write home about, but we have caught some big fish there. better to stay in the stream. careful with the grouper on that bank, I came down with ciguatera from a black caught there.

Chris,
"Cuban Luie", haven't heard that name in years. I learned a lota Blue Marlin rigging from him over in Marsh Harbor. I haven't seen him since 1995. He was working a 75' Hatt. Sportfish called Erin at the time. He's one of the best, and makes one hell of a Cuba-libre If you see him, tell him Capt. Stu from the Atlast says hey. |
