Default Long line clips

Just need some ideas ...Rod I have now does not have the big foot guides so ... do you need to use rubber bands with the LL clips ?can the weights be attached to the LP lights ... Also how far should the weights be from the rigged squids .. I know there are many ways .. but any input will help .. Thanks ...

I have the same problem (no big foot guides) and set up as you. I use long leaders (atleast 15 feet) instead of wind ons. I clip the LP light just above the long leader at about 15 to 20 feet. We clip the weights on at about 40 to 50 ft on the main line. We use long line clips and wrap rubber bands around the line to thicken the line where we attach the clips, Just wind the rubber band around the line tightly and then attach the clip and then it wont slip or chafe the line.

If you can’t use wind-on’s then use long bimini’s and short leaders, unless you have a seasoned mate, who knows what he is doing, to wire the fish.
Lights and lead should not be the same distance from bait so no need to attach them together, but yes you can if you want.

This is on of those subjects that you will get a bunch of different answers. I fish with a guy who attaches his weights to his lp's. I personally attach the lp at my swivel, then attach a weight further up with a rubber band (was using LL clips but kept sliding even though it was quicker to attach).

Miamiangler1 There is a ring hole on the bottom of the Lp lights to hook your leads to. If you use windons you can clip the Lp light on the leader where the thread comes together with the line. This puts your Lp light about 25 to 30ft from your bait, just useing one LL clip. There is more than one way to skin a cat ,but this works well for me.

I cant use long biminis for the same reason that I cant use wind ons- They dont slide thru the guides on my Loomis rods well enough.

Ouch, I understand. Looks like you have to go with the long leaders then.
You up for this weekend? You can test out the rods. I'll need some time to switch over from the 80STW's to the 50SW's, so give me a heads up if you can.

Just my $.02 and in Jamaican dollars it doesnt mean much. Along my mainline I wrap by way of half hithces approximately two to three inches of wax line. These not only are used to mark 100ft increments in my main line but the very first one is used as a clip point for my long line clips to attach weights. I have used both methods of attaching weights to my lights as well as putting the light closer and the weight 50ft back.

take your rubber band and wrap i around the main line about 4 times. now put one tag end through the other and pull tight. you should now have a rubber band 'clump' along with a single 'tag end' of the rubber band. clip your long line clip though the rubber band tag end loop AND the main line. this way the main line supports the weight but the band stops it from sliding

personally i put the light about 4 feet above my bimini (i fish wind-ons) and then my weight about 5 feet above that.

JUST MAKE SURE...... that you measure your 'drop depth' from where the weight is, not from the bait location, allot of people make this mistake.

Jason the best way is to wrap the rubber band around 4 times then grab both ends and attach the LL clip. then attach the LLclip to the mainline. If you pull one end thru the other and pull tight, it is a bitch to get the band off. This way when you unclip the LL clip the rubber falls off and you don't miss a beat. my .02.

good point chris and method to do that.

luckily I gave up on trying new techniques of rubber banding along time ago and now just fish wax loops best thing i ever did......man i hate rubber bands!!!

Last night we had a rod with out wax loops and it made remember how much i hate not having wax loops

We use 25 foot leaders. And at the top of the leader we double crimp with one crimp at the loop and the second about 6-12" down. We then attach our light in that little doubled up piece of line along with our weights rubber banded there. They can not slide down now due to the doubled up line!

I use 15 to 20 ft leaders. I make a short double line that I tie to the snap swivel. I clip the light above the snap on the double line. The double line knot prevents the light from sliding further away and the snap keeps it from sliding further down. Also having the light on the main line prevents any light transmission down the leader.

I know it is expensive but the best advice i can give you is bite the bullet, get some real sword rods, get wind-ons and USE WAX LOOPS!!!!!! The first tiem you put out and/ or check your spread with wax loops instead of rubber bands you will NEVER fish rubber bands again.....Trust me it is worth the extra time it takes to put them on

I'll let you tie the wax loops on my lines then. And if I get cut by them I'm taking it out of your pay.
