Besides line capacity, what other advantage does the Tiagra 80w have over the 50Wlrs? Im looking to buy two more Sword reels/ rods, right now I have 1 50wlrs and am trying to decide if I should add 2 more 50s or 2 80s. FYI I plan on using them for stand up outfitts, short bent butt rods fishing out of a 23 foot CC. If you see any issues with this set up feel free to let me know, Im trying to learn as much as possible before I venture out.
Thanks in advance for the info. Tom |

I fish Alutecnos 80w 2 speed. I think that they are far superior and a lot less maintenance. Forget about the bent butt's. Bent butt rods are for high speed trolling and the chair. You will not need the chair and there is no high speed trolling needed for Sword fishing. Once you go Alutecnos you will never go back. I have one accurate 80W s speed. This reel has a twin drag and is the the maserati but the price was off the charts. Good luck !

I fished AVET reels for giant 300 lb yellowfin tuna in Puerto Vallarta and we used the standard 50's with 130 power pro. The drags are smooth and almost indestructible and can take a ton of pressure( we used 40 lbs drag standing up with those monsters). The captain that I fished with wont even fish with Tiagras any more. If you would fish for swords with power pro and 100 lb mono top shot you could fight them standing up and be more comfortable with the AVET standard 50 reels.

Stag11,
Thanks for the info: I do plan on also using the for high speed trolling for wahoo and planed on going with the short butts(thats still to be determined). Also I love the Alutecnos and Accurate reels, but I get reels direct from Shimano, so I cannt pass up the price. Thanks again! Tom |

If your not worried about the extra weight in the harness, go with the 80W's. I would fish all bent butts because they are the bomb! A lot more comfortable in the harness, plus you can fish them out of the rod holder if you want to and use way more drag out of your 80W.
Going to add an Alutecnos 80W to the arsenal around my birthday in May .Good Luck.
