Default in regards to needing bigger hooks

we found this in the sword that we caught the night of the fs-hydraglow tourny. it is the biggest beak that i have ever seen in person and it is considerably larger than the ones found in the squids that we use for bait. how big do you think it was? it was only in a 53" fish
also we found almost completely whole, what i think was a lantern (or angler) fish inside the stomach. it was only about the size of my palm (i dont have this pic...yet)

If I had to guess I'd say about an 18"-24" squid. Thats a big bite for a 53" fish! Cool pics bro. Love to see the shots of the lantern fish ( angler fish )?

Those could be from deepwater octopus too. Most swords hang out near the bottom during the daytime. We've found parts of crabs, shrimp, and eels to confirm that theory.

Back when I started, I would read scattered schools of bait on the bottom 50' to 100' thick. All the fish we caught were filled lanterns, a few bigger ones but mostly small fry. That was in March and April.

The lancet fish looks pretty fresh. Sometimes I think that even at night the swords hang out on the bottom. During some really slow nights I have passed over some really fishy bottom (marking tons of stuff in the bottom 200 ft.)
