Cool Swordfishing Vs. Smoking Crack

ok guys im from the west coast of Florida and grew up inshore snooknreds fishing and going slighlty off shore to catch and shoot grouper. I have only been doing the offshore thing for about two years and was blown away at first by sailfish and dolphin and that kinda thing (i have still yet to catch a wahoo though)

then i started swordfishing!!!
and i try to describe how addicting it is to my friends back home and the only way i can compare it is to a CRACKHEAD.
its all i think about. but my friends and i were talking last night and i realized that it is WORSE than being a crack head. i have always heard that a crack head speeds life 'chasing the dragon' or in other words chasing that first high that they got the first time that they smoked crack. but no matter what they do they can never ever reach it again. but swordfishing allows you to reach that high again and again.....but not every time. that 65" just made my addiction to swording worse than ever. but next trip i might not get shizit. its like a combination of smoking crack and a gambling addiction actually i think.

im about to graduate in may and was thinking of going to cali for a good job offer. I can honestly say that they ONLY reason i dont want to go is because i cant give up swordfish fishing....its my crack i mean they got tuna fishing over there an i could easily go to mexico for the weekened get away trips but i mean come on thats not the same as swording.
i cant think of any other kind of fishing i would ever want to do. i have never caught a marlin but as fun as i think that would be, i dont think it would be as fun as swording out on the 50 in the middle of the night just sitting there drinking a beer and all of a sudden the rod just starts screaming.

Just thought i would share that opion and see if there is anyone else in here that would agree that swordfish fishing is worse than smoking crack..... we need a SFAA SwordFishingAddictionsAnonymous...LOL

Now wheres my next fix coming from?

It's not a life and death problem, it's much more serious than that!

Don't sell Tuna short. They have some amazing long range trips, and clubs in Cal. Check out bloodydecks.com Catching big yellowfins on standup isn't for the weak and meek. You'll be suprised @ how similiar the tackle they use for tuna is to our sword gear. If it was a good opportunity jobwise, I'd be lookin forward to some tuna trips. They call the big ones cows, and anybody who's been hooked up to a 200+lb tuna will tell you its a hell of an experience. Not that I'm moving, but your not in a fish wasteland over there either.
Good Luck,
DF2

I grew up in Cali and worked on some of the tuna boats out of San Diego. Make no mistake about it, the fishing in Cali is good and Mexico (BCS) is even better. . . but it doesn't hold a candle to Swording here. The Mako/Thresher, Tuna, Yellowtail (not snappas), White Seabass, Halibut & Striped Marlin fishing is all fun, but IMHO we have a much better fishery right here. I go back to vist and fish once or twice a year, but I wouldn't move back for anything

Sorry that the fish look small in the pictures. Had I better pictures I would post them. The Tuna ranged from 60-80lbs. The dolphin were schoolies.

Default Sword Addiction

Yup... I live in MA and get down every few months to go Swording. There is nothing else like it. Done the Cabo trip, inshore FL, and Blue fins up here. However nothing like 80+ degrees, warm water, light winds (sometimes) and the glow of So FL in the distance.

Had to cancel this week swording... got the flu over the weekend. It's now 10 degrees with a 15-20 NW. Maybe next month.

Me too. Can't imagine living in the cold or farther away from the stream.
Think I'd shrivel and die

Another Grand,
Thanks for posting that picture, you see........Tuna fishing is my addiction !!
I have been going cold turkey all winter, dreaming of the spring tuna run.
Now you flash that picture in front of me, teasing me......kinda like being in a teetee bar with no money.

I love the Sword Fishing, but the weather here off Ft. Pierce is much less forgiving on the 30 mile off drift than the 5 mile off drift of Miami. Your 2' is my 4-5', with a longer run out and in. We get very few days in the winter for a drift.

Anyway, watch the days count down for April, and I will "see you on the otherside". I will start monitoring the Tuna forum and look for other friendly's as the season starts.
BTW- I hope that is an older photo, those dollys look much shorter than the current 20" min.

Hi ray, and welcome to SFA. so how long have you been using??

the other thing that i was thinking about was that when you catch a snook or something like that you bring them up and boga grip them or net them or even just flip them in the boat. and even a 200# tuna would be crazy to catch, and i am gonna do that one day, but there is nothing like swording cause when they come up next to the boat the fother mucker s trying to KILL YOU with a 4 foot bill!!!!!
It is some true old man and the sea type action!!!

and swording is more expensive than smoking crack!!

snook,

I had the same issue about 6 months ago. I had a good job offer in Orlando, only two hours aways and could not drive myself to move away from S FL fishing. And your considering Cali. What the hell are you thinking? If you have the sickness like so many of us do, your probably going to find every reason to stay "CRACK-HEAD"!

I think the SFA need an Institution!

yea it is because most of the good jobs for what i do are in cali. i HATE the cold with a passion. if it were up to me i would were flipflops and shorts no shirt everyday for the rest of my life.
like some people have said cali has good tuna fishing. and it would be nice to live some where else for a while considering i have always lived in florida. and i would be going to san diego which is not too bad. i went this this past summer for an internship and i loved where i was living. BUT I COULDNT AFFORD TO GO FISHING AT THE TIME.

hey if someone her is willing to just let me sleep in your back yard in a tent i will just work for you doing all your house maintaince and stuff inreturn for going fishing......kinda like a "will work for boat ride" type bum

man i really do need SFA
