Jim, what about in the proximity of the tortugas and marquesas? Anybody elses opinion is welcome as always Vinny? Eric? Capt Joe?
We do a couple trips a year down to the tugas and quesas. Thought it might be a cool change a pace for an evening away from the grouper and snapper. Thanks, Butch

DF2,
South of Key West is Woods Wall and The Hooters (way south) but other than those I don't know of any redeeming features that would knock my socks off as outstanding structure as you head west to the Marquesas and Tortuga. Vinnie, or maybe Eric might have better insight from a commercial standpoint. Capt. Jim The BEAST |

Off Key West and Marquesas, from Woods Wall (1200') out to 1800' has been the best for me.
Look for the inside edge of the Gulf Stream. Less than 700' brings a lot of shark bites, but if the Stream is in close you may have to fish there. Finding the Tinker schools seems to work out best for me. Capt. Art |

If you're fishing out of Marathon, there's a place within about 4 miles of the Marathon Humps called the Swordfish Trench--its on the charts for that area.
Because I keep my boat on Tavernier, we only fished that area once because of the distance (about 40 miles). We got a few bites, but a lot of sharks there too. We eventually fished North of there (closer to home) and after lots of fuel and several trial and error trips, got a nice Mako, then finally, the swords started coming more regularly when we zoned in on our area. But if you're leaving out of Marathon I'm sure the Swordfish trench will produce for you when you figure out the right depth/ lunar phase for that area. Good luck |
