Default 275 Verados

Hey Guys,

I don't want this to turn into an engine debate, but can I get some feedback from anyone who has Verados (not someone who has seen one, been on a boat with one once, etc, etc.)?

Thanks a lot!

I have three of 'em hanging on the back with 500 hours now. I've had very few problems. They are extremely quiet at idle and when shifting gears, smoother and quieter than anything on the market in my opinion. I was always a Yamaha guy and would certainly still recommend them, but for the most part I love the Verados and would be hard pressed to go back.

Thanks swordstalker. I have always had yamaha's myself and thinking of switching to the Verados. What kind of problems have you had, mainly sensors?

Thanks again!

Had a float switch problem on the fuel system management module that was a recall issue. Other than that no major issues.

325 hours and no problems. I've owned 150 Optis, 225 Optis, and now 250 Verados......will never go back to a different motor....DTS, power steering, auto-sync.....etc...and all the Verado owners I know are satisfied as well.

Putting Verados on my 31 ocean master to replace blown 250 Yamaha 2-strokes (98's). Hope I am doing the right thing. God is it expensive. I almost fainted when my mechanic showed me the estimate. Needed some very cold ones after that. Thought you went with the Suzukis? Are you having problems with them?

If you like down time and hearing alarms for no reason hang some VERADOS! I found the best thing to do when you hear the alarms and your way offshore is to turn your engine off and have the key in the off position. Then say a prayer or two ...turn it back on and hope it doesn't come back.
Also it is recommended by mercury that no racor fuel filter be installed. This becomes a problem when you go to the Bahamas and the fuel quality is not up to par. The fuel filter in the engine has a sensor that goes off once you have 2 ounces of water in the filter. Ive had lower units ...fuel pumps...steering pumps...and the caulings let a ton of salt in to the engines. I will never put a VERADO on my transom.

I have 3 275's. very few problems. The only complaint is going to the marina fuel dock for high test.$$$$. They are not very fuel effecient. I burn at least 60 gal. every sword trip no matter what I cruise at.

The Verados are gonna be bad news for you somewhere down the line.....I'm starting to hear more and more HORROR stories. Go with Hondas. I can't say enough good stuff about what they have done for me. My boat originally had a pair of 2002 130's. I started having what I thought was some type of ignition problem. Ends up being that Honda Had problems with the heads on some motors back in those years. Lets just say that it was nothing short of a miracle that one of them was still running. After they took it apart I can honestly say that the inside of the motor looked like it had been sitting at the beach for a couple of months. Most of the cylinders were fairly well rusted. One of them was rusted out beyond belief. The one head had two huge cracks and also 4 out of 6 valves were completely burnt....and believe it or not this motor was still running!! I had probably been running it like this for at least a couple of months. It just goes to show you how well put together these motors are. Without me even having to say a word.....Honda ended up giving me $5000. credit for each motor.....thats 10 G's total credit towards the purchase of a set of new 2007 motors.....any HP I wanted. I went with the 135's and they are kick ass. Not to mention the fact that I recently tried to run them on water......long story.........and they ended up covering those repairs under warranty. The high pressure fuel pump itself was $700.

Sooooo......I'd like to see any of the other motor companies do THAT for you.

dude u have 3 hanging off the back. Thats not to bad, considering 2 strokes ona boat like yours would burn upwards of 35-40 gph.

Thanks for the help. I've heard good and bad kind of like above. I need that much horsepower and the options are limited. Maybe the 300 Suzuki's will be out in time.

Thanks again!

Was that the night we heard you coming in on one engine?

It's funny that all the non-Verado owners seem to think they're the worst.

Alright, ok..I lied. They suck and I can't wait to put my rebuilt pair of Force motors on the Outrage.

Hey Joey,

Do your best to keep the lower units in the water and all when you run...you won't blow them. I had a few computer glitches early on but a good certified Verado tech can handle it without much problem.

The only thing I can complain about is the fuel efficiency. The new 07 motors are going to be 2 star rated motors and thus will burn less fuel than their earlier brothers. Turn-key reliability for me.....next motors will be Verados...but 3 or 4 of them.

Dirtyfoot2.....yup took us four hours to get back to the inlet at 6 knts. With as much water as had apparently leaked into my tanks I was lucky to only have lost one engine.
