Default Do you really want to be a commercial fisherman?

OK, lets separate the boyz from the men.

Here is a taste:

Scombrotoxin Prevention: FDA Seafood HACCP Regulations

US CODE: Title 46,CHAPTER 45—UNINSPECTED COMMERCIAL FISHING INDUSTRY VESSELS

Still looks simpler than the Florida Building Code (2004), but no way would I want to be a commercial fisherman.

I fish for fun nothing more.

Building code is not the problem, it's the inspectors who I want to take fishing (bait)

You can take the building inspectors if you want.

How is the liability risk and costs associated with commercial fishing?

I know my liabilities are stupid, I hate lawyers.

To quote Capt Quinn. When I was a boy everyone wanted to be a harpooner or a swordfisherman.

Good post Vinnie.Made me laugh. Got me thinking about what I half jokingly call my "law library" in one cabinet in my boat. Safety equipment requirement publications, copy of Rules of the Road, that exact same HACCP regulations and chart,NOAA gear definitions and diagrams, and believe or not a book on fish identification. Not for me, but because sometimes you need it to prove what kind of fish are on board. Having all of this makes boardings nothing to worry about;the officers love to see your stuff organized.

Pretty funny about the fish ID book. Never thought of it that way. Was boarded last year and questioned by a LEO about what species of snapper we had in the cooler and what the regs were on that particular species. I asked him how could he begin to enforce the laws if he couldn't even ID the fish?? About that time his superior had finished checking our paperwork and told the younger officer we were all right. Funny to me that the guy had never seen a bigeye snapper before. ( Toro ) Anyhow guess I'll throw the ID book on the boat as well. Good idea to reduce confusion on behalf of our officer friends.
