Default Chemistry Project Help - U/V Seamaster or HydroGlow for Electormagnetic Radiation

I have to do a project on: Applications of Electromagnetic Radiation. We were talking about color spectrum and all that good stuff and U/V light is part of it. So I was thinking of using my U/V Seamaster for demonstration, but is this light the same as regular U/V light? Also I can do it on Fluorescent Lighting and was thinking of bringing in my Hydro Glow. Is the bulb in the Hydro Glow a fluorescent light?

Thanks

I think the hydraglow does. I have a light thats awesome called the Fish Stick made locally in Ft. Lauderdale. My Snap On tool dealer was selling them for 165.00 two years ago. This light has performed flawlessly for a long time.

PJ, a hydraglow is a Fluorescent blub. But the UV seamaster is not a true UV. I do however know someone with a true UV light. True UV is bad for the eyes, and that is why it can not be marketed. It also can hardly be seen by human eye. When I first saw it you could not even tell it was on until the lights were off, and even then it looked like it had dead batteries.

If it is for a presentation, I would somehow show the blue then purple then UV and explain how they are in the color spectrum. Also remember underwater red disappears first, on land red is seen the farthest.

Now if you were smart you would tell mom and dad you NEED a green UV swordlight for a school project and get on the ball!

Sea Surface Temperature and ocean color maps are determined by
measuring the amount of energy in different frequency bands of the
EM spectrum. I think that this is a pretty cool application. Let me know
if you would like references. cheers, arthur

Wow! I wish I had the opportunity to do a project like that! We weren't given projects in Chem, just impossible tests. That's Pine Crest for you.

Whoa, thank you. I will let you know if I have to change topic incase I cannot find enough information to use the lights. I like the idea Barry.

These are the questions I have to answer:

*History of the radiation type (discovery, date, place, etc..)
*Wavelength/Frequency ranges of radiation (high- or low-type radiation?)
*Practical applications of radiation (toxic or radioactive)
*What creates the radiation (how does it work? or where does it come from?)

Hopefully I can get JR1's blue LP (I gotta get one of those) and I can show the different wavelengths of the different colors of light.
