That is a good price. I'd do it if I was looking for Tiagras.

I guess the thing for me is that everyone seams to go from 50's to 80's. So maybe I should just buy the 80's to begin with. I never heard of a guy wishing he has a 50.

I went with the 50wlrsa's because I like the idea of having the xtra drag if I jump up to the 130# Jerry Brown.

I think you would be just fine with the 50wlrs spooled with 130jbhc.

Never had a problem with mine.

You will have 700yds+ of line and the ability to put 35#'s on the fish no problem. That kind of pressure will wipe out most people long before the fish.

You should be able to stop 99% of anything you may hook out here with that setup.

One of the real issues here, is what kind of rod you plan on putting that reel on. Everybody always talks about reels this, and reels that but the right rod is the real key to putting the maximum leverage on the fish and minimum effort on you.
The only way to go is with a short-butt bent-butt stand up rod. The difference between that and a regular straight-butt is like night and day. If we were fishing together and you expected me to fight a fish with any other rod I would look at you and laugh my ass off.

Expect to spend more on the rod than you did the reel. They average around $700. If you skimp in the rod department you might as well not buy the reel.

Good point C,O,. Also buy a scale to set your drag.

"If we were fishing together and you expected me to fight a fish with any other rod I would look at you and laugh my ass off."

I would expect that even if we didn't catch a fish.
