Default Winter Swordfest Tournament FORECAST for 11/18/06

50-line forecast for the Lighthouse Point area.

As of Friday, November 17th, 10:00am
The wave height has dropped by 6 inches! But that ain't nearly enough. Even though the forecast if for solid 4's, that 4-second wave period and North wind will probably stack 'em up over 6ft. Not pretty. NOAA is still calling for 6-8ft in the stream Saturday too. Unfortunately, there is no indication of a calming sea anywhere near the tournament night.

This graph was derived from http://www.BuoyWeather.com

I fished that last week and it was a nice 4-6 swell. If there isn't any gusts over 20 she will be fishable.

Don't let the 3-5ft fool ya. Add the 5-second period and 15+ North winds, and the seas will feel a lot worse.

In my experience, these conditions are doable. Mostly a north sweel with some chop. We can hang if the tournament goes on.

I believe there is a front coming the following week and it is Turkey weekend too...

Like Drew said tonight, "this is supposed to be a fun event". Running the tournament in rough conditions does 2 things: 1. makes the fishing uncomfortable and dangerous, and 2. culls-out the smaller boats which means less competition and less prize money. I'd rather wait a week or two for good weather.

I have to agree with you on this Buck. In addition, with the extra week I might fish it!

There are definately alot of guys on here that would love to fish the tournaments, myself included, but just can't get with the bigger boats.

It's not fun in 4-6 in a 20' CC. ](*,)

Too bad all boaters don't have that same attitude. Would probably be alot less accidents.

NOAA is already wrong. It's 1 PM and the wind is only blowing out of the NNW at 8 mph. They have it at 10-15 KNOTS out of the north....

Now look at their forecasts for Saturday and they call N 10-13 knots on Saturday night and it's still calm right now ....I don't think there's enough time to build it up let alone it be 6-8 in the stream.

My prediction is that it will be 3-4 and we will end up fishing Saturday night. But then again, anybody's prediction is as good as NOAA's. The facts prove that they are already wrong.

Remember... land-based anemometers can have drastically different readings as compared to offshore windspeed and direction.

Looks like I'm taking my boat out tonight. All the way to 200ft. Maybe I'll make a run out a few miles to see if things are building.

I'm with hannaman.. i think these seas are fishable. I doubt it will be any better the following week, but forecasting the weather correctly we need to send Austin Powers into the future!!

Can we find someone willing to live out on the 50-line and post real-time conditions?
