Wouldn't drift without one.

Helps keep the boat steady and if you can set it right will put your lines at 90 to the boat which translates into more lines you can set.

I always have mine in the boat but just remember that if there is no wind it is worthless. As silly as it seems I have fished with guys that deploy their sea anchor no matter what. The only thing that leads to with no wind is tangled lines. I use a simple numark sea anchor but on the boat I fish in tournaments we use a paratech sea anchor. The paratechs are bad ass but they are huge. The numark is smaller and easy to pull when I fish solo (which is most of the time).
