I have been testing my mono to braid knot and the 200# braid is breaking 2" after my albright. It breaks at 50#. Is this the weakest point? 80# braid is breaking @ 30# (same place). The 200# is new, never in water and the 80# is old. Any ideas?

Try dunking everything in cold water before you make your connections. It sounds like you might be heating the Mono and the Braid which is making it weaker. After you tie it wet take a scale measurement, if you get a higher breaking strength the heat was your problem. Then you need to figure out how to tie without as much friction. The #s you posted sounded low and the location of the break does not seem right.

Wow!...That is scarry.
What would normal values for the strength of a well executed uni-to-uni joining of 100Lb. Power-Pro Bimini double line to 60 Lb. M-Diamond Bimini double line joint be? (or something similar to this combo) Reading this post scares the crap out of me. I didn't think there could be that much strength damage caused by just the knot-tying friction. I'll be waiting to see the results on this one..

Wetting the line got me to break at 70#(same place) with the 200# braid. I think if the line was soaking in the ocean for any amount of time it would absorb enough water to be stronger.Like that Jackie Chan movie where he pisses on the shirt to bend the jail cell bars. What do you all think?

I would try to superglue the braid part of the knot so the knot doesnt slip.
try it and let me know what you find, I think your knot seems to be slipping. This will heat up the mono and break way too soon. |

What brand braid are you using? Are you tying a regular albright. If so
that is a mistake. I had to modify my albrights, when I started using braid to make them work. I also was given the cold water advice by TD. It makes a difference . Thanks TD. The albright I'm tying now has 8wraps up, and 8 wraps back. Twice through the loop and slide gently pulling each way in your bucket of water. On 130 lb braid mine is bottoming out the 100 lb scale I have without breaking. 130 JB to 130 momoi diamond. Hope that helps. DF2
