Bead Problem

I was re-crimping my wind-ons when I noticed this. There is a cut in the line that I believe is from the bead. The wind-on is 300lb Momoi. Does the bead normally do this? Are there softer beads out there? Thanks.

why use the bead... take it off

Yes, those beads cause cuts in the line, many don't know they are there and loose fish because of it. I am testing using 2 of the smaller rounder beasds on top of eachother, seems to work better. Or I just use a chafe protector and that will stop the line from going into your tip!

likewise, a well known captain in my area told me that beads can cause line frays... they are good on your sabiki rods, but i dont know about big game...

One thing that I think lead to the problem is that sometimes I leave the Duralume lights on my snap swivels and wind it to the tip while running out or resetting. I think from all the swinging around from the light adds a lot of wear and tear to the line with that bead. I think I'm going to try a couple tri-beads instead because they look smoother.

I think if you are going to use a bead, reel it up tight. But IMO your better off going to the backside clamp on the reel with a snap swivel. You will get that bend in the line going around your tip, but that does not hurt the line at all. Also this keeps another 5 feet of line off the reel. When you leave 200+lb mono around a 50, it makes your leader like a spring. When I get home i take me wind-on off the reel and rubberband it with 10'' loops and let it hang there (thanks tek) And your wind on is much easier to fish next trip

We use these ahead of the bead and behind........the reason for the bead is to keep your wind on from kinking.

We also use these in the Tortugas to keep the weight from clicking into the swivel, noise will scare muttons away.

That being said..........always check your whole wind on before you put it out. That is first area I check.

get rid of the bead anjust bundle a rubber band there. Change your crimps also. they are the wrong ones ask Bobby for the good ones they cost more but I have lost more fish due to those crimps than most peeps have pulled hooks.

I think I solved the problem. I boght some of the hook stop plugs that are used in the Black Bart lures and put them on. It's looking pretty sweet so far, hoping to test it this weekend.
