So what is next, besides VHF-scan, a quad band watch? Penta-watch? Hexa-watch, Selecta-scan?
Everybody: straighten-up! When you are talking in broadcast, blah blah blah fashion, with 25 watts of broadcast power on the Vhf Marine band, you are reaching out and touching many somebodies. This does have an impact. Our entire society is dependent upon our youth: so when many swordfishing people in-hear, have a total lack of respect, from the last hand-me-downs, etc. that is when we must speak up. Cut the shit: do you capish? You can say some things on the internet: many times those can be moderated; however, the "Petty cases of interference should be solved by ameteurs and not referred to the FCC. " This is a quote out of the FCC rule book. Once, this remedy cannot be reconciled, there are escalating measures that can and will be put into play, to ensure the the U.S. airwaves are in compliance to the rules. We are a free society, for the most part; however, the broadcast airwaves are strictly governed by the FCC: yes, still, to this date. And until further notice, you had better shape up, or ship out. Basically, the locals will quell this matter: or it will cost you a hell of of a lot of money if you just don't "zip it" . !!!! Does this make sense to you now? (Those that are: doing this. ) |

I do agree. People shouldn't as vulgar as I have heard them on the radio be. But it's just like music/talk radio. If you don't like what you hear, you have the right to turn it off. But if you choose to leave it on, don't get offended when you hear something that you don't like.

mannyc,
Wrong. It is not like Sirius or XM radio, it is US public airwaves which are governed by the FCC. The other day I had a 72 yr old lady fishing with my group and some "jamoke" starts spouting off some really off color remarks which were totally uncalled for. I also take my grandchildren fishing and really would'nt mind some consideration when it comes to radio ettiquette. It makes them uncomfortable and thus makes me the same. If I remember correctly it is not as easy as turning off your radio. Like your radar, if you have both on board your vessel, radio and radar, they are required by USCG regs to be on and monitored. Besides, if my group is monitoring 78, why should all of us in the group have to change channels or turn off our radio because of one foul mouthed "jamoke"? It is really sick that we, in a law of majority land, feel it is the right of one to infringe on the rights of all others by saying, well you have the right to turn yours off and do without. They are "jamokes" and don't give a rats azz about the laws or anyone elses consideration. Not too mention that they are totally in violation of FCC regs just the same as those that speak another language on US channels. If they really had some ballz they would go on ch.16 and spout off, but they don't. I say find them and fine them! I remember, not all that long ago, when we used to have a radio station license and were required to provide call signs before and after each transmission. That also fell by the wayside due to the "let them be" attitude. Many people out there now, don't have the knowledge to run a boat let alone the knowledge of which channels are for what purpose. I wonder how these "jamokes" would feel if you walked up to their mother, kids, or grandchildren and started spouting off rude explicatives? Capt. Jim The BEAST |

I have to agree 100% with the BEAST here for once.
What has really pissed me off in the past, is when the BS was so thick on 72 that I couldn't even get a word in to get in touch with someone else in order to tell them to switch to another channel.

I'm with you Tek,
I despise vulgarity and hate to have to turn the south side to it and turn my radio off. I don't want to hear it or see it. I'll be on 78 Mon - Thurs nights, ... if the winds are cooperative. Reel T

Yeah it is freedom of the air waves that is why if some one is a jerk they are stepping on my personal freedoms of not wanting to hear that crap but still wanting to stay in contact with the other guys swording
Speaking of freedom some people may be loosing their's because they are cracking down on back door sales of swords  I hope they make a good example of some guy's so they stop this illegal sale of swordfish :!:

I was recently approached by a wholesaler who offered with no qualms to buy my Swordfish even though I told him I don't hold a "for sale" license and don't care to participate. He still offered me $3-$5 per pound if I changed my mind. As evidenced previously on this forum, I may be hard headed when it comes to my convictions but this is one time when you can appreciate the stubborness in me. Many guys would see $$$$ and hear the cha-ching of the register. I don't play that game, but I surely do understand it. $300-500 or more per trip is enticing. Brother, it isn't just the fisherman making the back-door buck. Dishonest people are everywhere from the guy with the rod to the man with the truck delivering to the restaurant and the restaurant owner himself. I bet we would be surprised at how many amongst us fall into this category. How many fish can one possibly consume in a month? Capt. Jim The BEAST |

quack u need to get a job with the marine patrol. it's people like you that are keeping the quota the way it is, hating on good fishermen that catch alot of fish. you act like they are catching over thier limit and keeping 10lb swords for market if the fish are reported and the boat stays within the legal size and count limit what's the problem? i dont sell fish but come on man give those guys a break.

Dude what the hell are you smoking  I am the last guy on this forum to be against commercial guys :!: :!: You were at the meeting in Broward I am the only guy that stood up and asked how we can catch more quota, while every one else bash LLers and buoy guys :!:The problem is unlicensed commercial fisherman that are selling fish illegally :!: :!: That is the biggest reason the LLer have a grudge on getting this area open  If the suppliers are flush with fish down hear it drives the price down for the legal commercially caught fish.If you do not have a permit you can not sell swordfish :!: It does not matter if you stay in the limit, that is more because a person would not want to be stopped by the law or pull up to the ramp over the limit :!: Go back and read my threads about how to increase the quota. We have met a bunch of times and I like you but you need to go bark up another tree because you are way the hell of base buddy   All I said was I do not like crap on the radio and the fact I heard nmfs and fwc are going to start busting people you get defensive do you have a guilty conscience on these subjects :?:
